Dell Technologies Championship Golf Odds And Predictions
It’s event No. 2 of the FedExCup playoffs this week as the PGA Tour heads to the greater Boston area for the Dell Technologies Championship. Only the Top 70 in points after the Dell advance to the next tournament in golf’s postseason. Here’s a look at the Sports Interaction PGA favourites and odds on the Canadians.
FedExCup Update
The Dell Technologies Championship used to be called the Deutsche Bank Championship. It’s still held at TPC Boston, a par 71 measuring just over 7,340 yards. This is the only tournament annually scheduled Friday-Monday (Labor Day holiday weekend in the USA) instead of the standard Thursday-Sunday
The new FedExCup points leader is American Dustin Johnson after his thrilling playoff victory last week over Jordan Spieth at the Northern Trust. Both DJ and Spieth finished regulation at 13 under and the world’s No. 1 player knocked out Spieth, who led by as many as five strokes Sunday, on the first extra hole. It was Johnson’s first victory since he took a streak of three straight wins into the Masters in April, only to withdraw after a fall at his rental home in Augusta.
The Top 100 in the points advanced from last week; Michael Kim was the bubble boy at No. 100 and Scott Stallings the unfortunate golfer one spot back. Three players who were outside the Top 100 last week played their way into it: Bubba Watson (113 to 72), Harold Varner III (123 to 91) and David Lingmerth (103 to 87). Those who fell out were Byeong Hun An (96 to 102), Robert Garrigus (99 to 109) and Seung-Yul Noh (100 to 110), who all missed the cut.
Johnson moved from fourth to No. 1 in the points when former leader Hideki Matsuyama missed the cut. Johnson leads Spieth by 595 points. As noted above, only the Top 70 move on to the BMW Championship in two weeks. Currently at No. 70 is Grayson Murray, with Rod Pampling at 71st.

Dell Technologies Championship Favourites
Johnson is the +536 favourite to go back-to-back. He has two Top 10s here this decade, an eighth in 2016 and fourth in 2012.
Spieth is +800; can he just forget about his implosion in New York? Spieth started Sunday with a three-shot lead, and his advantage was up to five through just five holes. However, then he doubled No. 6 and that started things downhill. Spieth has a best result of third here in 2013.
Rickie Fowler (+1400), Jason Day (+1400), Rory McIlroy (+1500) and Matsuyama (+1600) round out the betting leaders. McIlroy, 34th last week, has won this tournament twice, in a playoff over Louis Oosthuizen in 2012 and by two strokes over Paul Casey last year. Fowler was the 2015 champion. Day was third in 2011 and seventh in 2014. Matsuyama’s best result in Boston is 15th. Last week was only his second missed cut of the season.
Canadian Golfer Odds
Graham DeLaet is +16500 to win. He dropped from 67th to 74th in the points after withdrawing last week following a first-round 74. DeLaet complained of a back injury but is still entered in Boston as of this writing. DeLaet finished third at this tournament in 2013.
Adam Hadwin is +27800 and is 18th in the points, down from 13th, after a missed cut last week – his fifth MC in the past six tournaments. Hadwin has played this tournament once and was 46th last year. Mackenzie Hughes (+47600) is 37th in the points after a 62nd in New York. He has never played this event and no Canadian has won it. Mike Weir was a runner-up in 2008.
Dell Technologies Championship Predictions
It’s never wise to bet on a guy to win back-to-back weeks so that rules out Johnson even though he finally looks right again. I like Henrik Stenson and Adam Scott for Top 10s as they have both won here, but the pick is South African Louis Oosthuizen at +3600. In three trips to TPC Boston he hasn’t been worse than 12th and had that runner-up to McIlroy five years ago.
