Byron Nelson: PGA Tour Golf Picks, Predictions, Tee Times
With the PGA Championship just a week away, this tourney represents a last chance for players to prepare for the second major of the season. K.H. Lee returns to the Byron Nelson pegged as a high-value +2400 bet to pull off the three-peat. However, an array of other intriguing betting opportunities is also available ahead of first-round tee off on Thursday morning.
Here’s a look at some of the best bets to consider this weekend at the 2023 Byron Nelson.
Jason Day Miss the Cut
We had high expectations for Jason Day going into last week’s Wells Fargo Championship. Apart from his final round meltdown at the Masters, the popular Australian was enjoying a productive season, posting top ten finishes in six of his previous eight outings. However, prior to tee off, Day discussed his current battle with vertigo. Those concerns were reflected in his shaky play at Quail Hollow, where he ended up missing the cur while shooting even par over 36 holes.
Bouts of vertigo are nothing new for Day, who was forced to withdraw from the 2015 US Open after collapse on the course due to the condition. Hopefully, Day is showing improvement, particularly with the PGA Championship just a week away. However, in the meantime, it is prudent to fade him across the board this weekend, and consider getting in on the lucrative +310 odds of him missing the cut for a second straight week.
Expect Hole-in-One Drought to Continue
There has been no shortage of holes-in-one at this tournament in recent years. Indeed, both Marc Leishman and Justin Lower accomplished the feat at last year’s Byron Nelson, bringing the total number of holes-in-one shot at this tourney to eight since 2010.
While that has helped to boost the odds of a hole-in-one occurring this weekend to -200, it is important to note that a hole-in-one has yet to be hit when this tournament has been played at TPC Craig Ranch, and last year’s two holes-in-one were the first at the Byron Nelson since 2015. Accordingly, the better value cane be found in the +150 odds of no golfer acing a hole this weekend.
Tom Kim First Round Leader
Tom Kim fell just short of cracking the top twenty for the eighth time this season at last weekend’s Wells Fargo Championship, shooting a final-round 71 to claim share of 23rd place. However, the steady development of the 20-year-old’s game this season is undeniable. In addition to claiming his second career victory, Kim enjoyed a sensational debut at the Masters while finishing 16th.
A 17th-place finisher at last year’s edition of the Byron Nelson, Kim has also stormed out of the gate in his past two outings, shooting a 66 at the Zurich Classic and following up with an opening round 67 last weekend. In addition to making him a solid +350 bet to lead the way in first round six shooter betting, Kim’s fast starts and lofty position in scoring average this season make him a solid -125 to outpace defending champion Lee in tournament matchup betting, and to pay out on +333 odds to finish the tourney as the top South Korean in the field.
Picks: Jason Day miss the cut (+310); No holes-in-one (+150); Tom Kim first round six shooter (+350)
