2024 Valero Texas Open: PGA Tour Betting Odds
Some guys like playing the week before a major and some don’t, so it’s a bit of a mixed field this week at the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, where the winner gets the final entry into next week’s Masters if not already qualified. Rory McIlroy is favoured to win on the golf odds.
I’m actually a bit surprised that Rory is even playing this week – one of four Top 10 players in the world rankings in the field. Not surprised that Jordan Spieth is, though, as he’s a Texas native.
“I’ve been here 11 years and it is certainly the best field we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Valero Texas Open Executive Director Larson Segerdahl. “I think going even further back it will prove to be one of the strongest fields ever. I think guys are realizing the value of staying sharp.”
Might surprise you to know the Valero Texas Open is the third-oldest event on the PGA Tour and the longest held in the same city. The tournament debuted in 1922. It has been held at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio since 2010. The Oaks, designed by Hall of Famer Greg Norman, is a par 72 at about 7,440 yards. The par-3 16th is a rare hole in the world with a bunker in the middle of the green. It has taken double-digit under par to win here every year since 2015.
It’s not often that a Canadian player is among the favourites to win on the PGA Tour entering an event, but Corey Conners was among them last year at +1600 and won here for the second time, shooting a final-round 4-under 68 to finish at 15-under 273 and edge out American Sam Stevens by a shot.
Conners was a shot behind Patrick Rodgers starting play Sunday but had a three-shot lead after he birdied No. 15. Stevens eagled the 17th but missed a 9-foot birdie putt at 18 that would have tied it. Connors it ended it with a 3-foot par putt on 18. In 2019, Conners was a Monday qualifier for the tournament and won at 20-under 268 for his first PGA Tour victory. A handful of guys have won the tournament twice but only Arnold Palmer and Justin Leonard three times.
Our value pick to win last year was Lucas Glover at +11300, but he finished 45th.

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy is the +1000 favourite. While he has a win overseas in 2024, he has not had an especially good year thus far on the PGA Tour without a Top 10 in five events. McIlroy has played this event twice, finishing second in 2013 and missing the cut two years ago.
Ludvig Aberg (+1200), Hideki Matsuyama (+1800), Collin Morikawa (+2000), Canadian Corey Conners (+2200) and Jordan Spieth (+2200) round out the favourites. Spieth has played the Texas Open seven times, winning in 2021 and finishing runner-up in ’15. The Swede Aberg is a future superstar with three Top 10s this year. He missed the cut here last year. Matsuyama was 15th last year, his best result in the event. It’s the tournament debut for Morikawa.
Stephen Jaeger, who got his first Tour win at the Houston Open on Sunday, is not in the field. He is of the winningest players in Korn Ferry Tour history.
Conners is the lone Canadian winner of the tournament with his second victory in 2023. Those remain his only two Tour victories. The most recent repeat winner here was Zach Johnson in 2009. Conners last teed it up at the Players Championship and was T13. Nick Taylor was T15 last year, while Taylor Pendrith missed the cut and Michael Gligic withdrew after a first-round 78. Adam Svensson is +12500 this week with Pendrith also +12500 and Ben Silverman +15000.
Valero Texas Open Golf Predictions
Take Corey Conners for a Top 10, but the winner is Byeong Hun An at +3300. He has two Top 10s here in three trips to San Antonio and three Top 10s in 2024 but without a career PGA Tour win.
