2023 AT&T Byron Nelson: PGA Tour Betting Odds

Scottie Scheffler is favoured on the golf odds.

This event has been around for decades but has been held at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, since only 2021. It’s a par 72 at approximately 7,420 yards. The signature hole is the 17th, which now features Ranch 17, an enclosed stadium-like experience on the hole. Up to 6,000 fans can fit in Ranch 17 to “give the hole more energy,” according to tournament director John Drago.

Per usual, the AT&T Byron Nelson will benefit the Momentous Institute and give 100 per cent of proceeds to mental health services, training and education. Momentous Institute in Dallas has supported children and families with mental health care services for over 100 years.

Only one player has won the tournament at TPC Craig Ranch, and that’s South Korea’s KH Lee. In 2021, he finished at 25-under 263 and three up on second-place Sam Burns for his first PGA Tour victory. Last year, he shot a tournament-record 26-under to beat out Texas native Jordan Spieth by a stroke. Lee had an eagle on the par-5 12th on Sunday to put him in front for good on the way to a 9-under 63 in the final round. He joined Sam Snead (1957-58), Jack Nicklaus (1970-71) and Tom Watson (1978-80) as the only repeat winners at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Those remain Lee’s only two PGA Tour wins, although he has a few more international victories in his career. This season, he has two Top 10s. Actually a South Korean has won the tournament three straight years as Sung Kang did in 2019 – there was no event in 2020 due to COVID. The last American winner was Aaron Wise in 2018. He hasn’t won since and is +4100 this week.

The winner this week will get into the PGA Championship if not already qualified.

World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is the +489 favourite. He has two wins this season and his last stroke play tournament was the Masters, where he was T10 as the defending champion. Scheffler was T15 here last year.

Texas native Jordan Spieth is +900 with Tyrrell Hatton +1600, Jason Day +1800, Joohyung Kim +2000, Hideki Matsuyama +2200 and two-time defending champion KH Lee +2800. Just nine men since World War II have won an event on the PGA Tour three straight years as Lee is attempting. Steve Stricker is the most recent to have done it, his three-peat at the John Deere Classic in 2009-11.

Spieth had that runner-up last year and was T9 in 2021. Hatton comes off a T3 at the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday. Day won here in 2010 and was a runner-up to Billy Horschel in 2017. Matsuyama withdrew from last week’s Wells Fargo citing the need for continued medical treatment on his neck but as of now is in the field here. He was T3 last year.  The 2022 Byron Nelson Collegiate Golf Award winner, William Knauth, will make his PGA Tour debut and is +150000.

No Canadian has won this tournament – Mike Weir was a runner-up by two to Brendon Todd in 2014. Adam Svensson was the top finisher last year at T69, while Michael Gligic was T73, and Mackenzie Hughes, Nick Taylor, Adam Hadwin and Roger Sloan missed the cut. The cut was at 5 under after 36 holes. Hadwin is +4300 this week with Mackenzie Hughes +7900, Sloan +31700 and Gligic +46100

AT&T Byron Nelson Golf Predictions

We like Seamus Power at +5100. He has been 17th and 9th the past two years at this tournament and comes off a T18 Sunday at the Wells Fargo.
