2022 Houston Open: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
Scottie Scheffler is favoured on the golf odds.
The Houston Open for years was held the week before the Masters – the last entry to Augusta went to the winner — in the spring but the tournament was shifted to October starting in 2019 and it moved to a new course, renovated Memorial Park Golf Course, in 2020. The track is a par 70 at about 7,410 yards. The par-5 16th yielded the fifth-most birdies on the course in 2021 with 73 and also the third-most double bogeys or worse with 12. It’s considered a “second-shot” course with strategic bunkering and unique green contours.
The defending champion is American Jason Kokrak (he was born in North Bay, Ontario but raised in Ohio), who finished at 10-under 270 and two shots ahead of Scheffler and Kevin Tway. Kokrak, who trailed by nine shots through two rounds, shot a closing five-under 65 on the strength of four straight birdies on the inward nine. It was his second win in 2021 in Texas, along with the Charles Schwab Challenge.
Scheffler was the third-round leader and still led at the turn Sunday but bogeyed three times on the back nine and shot 69. Six players held the lead at one point on Sunday.
The 2021 event was sponsored by Hewlett Packard Enterprise and this year’s by Cadence Bank. Three local Houstonians have received sponsor exemptions to play in the tournament: Travis Vick, Walker Lee and Cole Hammer. The World Series trophy will be on site after the Houston Astros beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. The Astros Golf Foundation is a key part of the tournament
Houston Open Golf Odds
World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is the +600 favourite, and he would regain the No. 1 ranking with a victory. He comes off a T3 in Mexico on Sunday after shooting a final-round 62. As noted above, he was a runner-up here last year.
Sam Burns is +1100 with Aaron Wise +1600 and Hideki Matsuyama +2000. Burns has been T7 at this tournament in back-to-back years. Wise has a best result of T11 at the event. Matsuyama was T2 in his lone visit in 2020. Russell Henley, who won in Houston in 2017, is +2500. He won on the PGA Tour for the fourth time in his career on Sunday at Mayakoba.
No Canadian has won this tournament, which dates to 1946. Mackenzie Hughes finished T29 last year with Nick Taylor T41, while Ben Silverman, Roger Sloan, Adam Svensson and Taylor Pendrith missed the cut. Pendrith is +6000 this week with Adam Hadwin +6000, Hughes +6600, Taylor +12500, Svensson +17500 and Michael Gligic +30000.
Houston Open Golf Predictions
We’ll go with Sam Burns at +1100 to win. He’s off a T7 a couple of weeks ago in South Carolina and has those two Top 10s here.
