2022 Charles Schwab Challenge: PGA Tour Betting Odds
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is favoured on the golf odds.
As one would expect of a high-stress major tournament like the PGA Championship, won Sunday by Justin Thomas, it’s a bit of a watered-down field this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth Texas — although the fact the PGA Championship was in relatively nearby Tulsa, Okla., likely led to a few more players deciding to go ahead and play here. Technically, this is an invitational so the field is limited to approximately 120 players.
Historic Colonial Country Club was built in 1936, hosted the 1941 U.S. Open and has held an annual PGA Tour event since 1946. It’s a par 70 at 7,210 yards and holes 3-5 are considered the toughest stretch on the course and nicknamed the “Horrible Horseshoe.” The 481-yard par-4 fifth was the toughest in the 2021 tournament.
The defending champion is American Jason Kokrak. He and Dallas-area native Jordan Spieth dueled on Sunday, although dueling perhaps is the wrong word as both had five bogeys in their rounds. Kokrak finished at 14-under 266 and beat Spieth (shot 73) by two as Spieth bogeyed his 72nd hole. Kokrak had missed a playoff in the 2021 Charles Schwab Challenge by one stroke. That was won by Daniel Berger. Kokrak was the 10th winner in the past 13 years at Colonial to come from behind in the final round as Spieth entered Sunday up by one.
The winner of the Charles Schwab Challenge gets a restored sports car. This year it’s a 1979 Pontiac Firebird. OK then.

Charles Schwab Challenge Golf Odds
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is from the greater Dallas area so not a huge surprise he’s playing. Scheffler (+950) is having a fabulous season with four wins, including the Masters, but comes off a hugely disappointing missed cut at the PGA Championship. He hasn’t contended in two trips to this tournament.
I am surprised that Justin Thomas (+1200) is playing after beating Will Zalatoris in a playoff at the PGA Championship on Sunday for Thomas’ second career major championship. Thomas’ best result here is a T10 two years ago. Jordan Spieth (+1400), Collin Morikawa (+1700), Viktor Hovland (+1800) and Zalatoris (+2100) round out the favourites.
Spieth won here in 2016 and has been a runner-up three times, including last year. He finished T34 at the PGA Championship on Sunday. Morikawa was T55 at the PGA and has a best finish of runner-up here in 2020. Zalatoris played here for the first time in 2021 and was T59. Hovland’s lone trip here was in 2020 when he was T23.
Rookie Mito Pereira, who was leading the PGA Championship by a shot when he teed off on No. 18 Sunday but had a double bogey to not even make the playoff, is +4500 this week.
No Canadian player has won this tournament. George Knudson was second to Bruce Crampton in 1965. Adam Hadwin was the top finisher last year at T8, with Corey Conners T20, Nick Taylor T62, and Mackenzie Hughes and Michael Gligic missed the cut. Taylor is +21000 this week. Adam Svensson is +28000.
Charles Schwab Challenge Golf Predictions
Justin Spieth is a “horse for the course” so take him for a Top 10, but the winner is Collin Morikawa at +1700 with an average finish of 8th in two visits here.
