2021 Tour Championship: PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
Patrick Cantlay opened as a short favourite on the golf odds.
Before a change in 2019, one player could win the Tour Championship yet another could win the FedExCup playoffs. Now, the winner of this event captures both. The points leader begins the tournament at 10 under par. The next four players will start at 8 under through 5 under, respectively, and then it drops by one stroke per five players to where those in spots 26-30 start at even par.
In 2019, Rory McIlroy started five shots back of Justin Thomas but won at 18 under. Last year, Dustin Johnson started at 10 under and won at 21 under, three up on Thomas and Xander Schauffele to become the first No. 1 seed going into the playoffs to capture the title since Tiger Woods in 2009. While McIlroy and Tiger have each won the FedExCup playoffs twice, no one has repeated yet.
East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta is a par 70 at around 7,340 yards. Every Tour Championship since 2005 has been held there. With such a small field, there is no cut. Steve Stricker will announce his six captain’s picks for the U.S Ryder Cup team following the Tour Championship.
Some big names who failed to get into the Top 30 in FedExCup points following Sunday’s BMW Championship near Baltimore: Webb Simpson, Lee Westwood, Paul Casey, Canadian Mackenzie Hughes and Phil Mickelson. Patrick Reed was sidelined from the BMW with an illness and finished right at 30th – it’s not clear, though, if he will be able to play this week yet.
No PGA Tour event next week but the new wraparound season tees off Sept. 16 with the Fortinet Championship from California Wine Country.
2021 Tour Championship Golf Odds
Patrick Cantlay (+401 to win) took over the FedExCup points lead on Sunday with a thrilling playoff victory over Bryson DeChambeau at the BMW Championship and thus starts the Tour Championship at 10 under. The win also earned Cantlay the sixth and final automatic spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. Cantlay’s best finish in this tournament is T20.
World No. 1 Jon Rahm is +404 and starts in fourth place at 6 under. The Spaniard’s best result in the Tour Championship was fourth last year. DeChambeau starts third at 7 under – his 27 under par score at the BMW Championship was the lowest in Tour history to NOT win a tournament – and is +500. He blew a few putts on Sunday or he’d be leading the FedExCup points race and starting at 10 under. DeChambeau’s best Tour Championship finish is T12.
Dustin Johnson is +2100 to repeat. He qualified for this tournament for a 13th straight year, the longest active streak on the Tour. DJ starts at 3 under. Tony Finau starts in second at 8 under and is +629.
The lone Canadian winner of the Tour Championship was Mike Weir in 2001. Mackenzie Hughes was the only player to qualify last year and finished 14th at 8 under. Corey Conners (+13000) is the lone qualifier this year and starts at 1 under. He was T26 in his first visit two years ago.
Tour Championship Golf Predictions
Rahm is the pick at +404. He hasn’t been worse than T12 in four trips to the Tour Championship.
