2021 Charles Schwab Challenge PGA Tour Betting Odds
Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are favoured on the golf odds.
Interesting scheduling on the Tour as the AT&T Byron Nelson was held in the Dallas/Fort Worth area the week before the PGA Championship and now the Tour goes back to that same metroplex.
The Charles Schwab Challenge dates back to 1946 and has had numerous names over the years, usually with Colonial in the title as the tournament is held at Colonial Country Club, a par 70 at around 7,209 yards. This is the longest-running PGA Tour non-major event to be held on the same course; only Augusta National hosting the Masters has run longer. Colonial also hosted the 1941 U.S. Open and 1975 Players Championship.
This is an invitational, which means a bit smaller field of 120 players. This event was notable a year ago because it was the first tournament of the Tour’s restart in June following a three-month shutdown due to the COVID pandemic. A handful of players have won here twice but just one person more than two: Ben Hogan five times, including the first two.
The defending champion is American Daniel Berger. He made a 10-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Collin Morikawa – they finished regulation at 15-under 265 — and then won it on the first extra hole when Morikawa missed a 3-foot putt. It was the tournament’s first playoff since 2014. Four players finished one shot back. None of the top eight finishers had a single round over par all weekend. Berger’s worst round was a 67 (twice). Only one golfer has won at Colonial in back-to-back years: Hogan, who did it twice (1946-47 and 1952-53)
Phil Mickelson, who opened at +20000 to win the PGA Championship over the weekend in South Carolina and became the oldest-ever major winner at age 50, is rather shockingly playing this week. Lefty is a two-time winner of the tournament but not since 2008. He’s not planning to play again after this event until the U.S. Open, the lone major he hasn’t won. Mickelson is +6600 to win the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Jordan Spieth, a Dallas native, and Justin Thomas are each +1000 favourites. Spieth was a popular bet to win the PGA Championship but only had one good round and finished T30. Spieth won this tournament in 2016 and has been second twice. He was T10 a year ago.
Thomas surprisingly missed the cut at the PGA Championship. He also finished T10 here a year ago in his first time in the event. Collin Morikawa is +1400, and Abraham Ancer and defending champion Daniel Berger are each +1800.
Ancer shot a blistering 65 on Sunday to finish T8 at the PGA Championship. His best finish here is T14 last year. Morikawa, the 2020 PGA Championship winner, was also T8 on Sunday in South Carolina. He lost that playoff here to Berger last year. Berger was T75 at the PGA Championship. He hadn’t contended in two previous trips to this tournament before last year’s win.
No Canadian player has won this tournament. George Knudson was second to Bruce Crampton in 1965. Last year, Corey Conners was T19, Adam Hadwin T43 and Mackenzie Hughes missed the cut.
Conners was the top Canadian at the PGA Championship at T17 and is +2500 this week. His best result here is T8. Hadwin (T64 on Sunday) is +15000, Hughes (MC at PGA Championship) is +20000 and Michael Gligic +35000.
Charles Schwab Challenge Golf Predictions
Take Spieth, Morikawa and Conners for Top 10s. The winner at +2200 is Tony Finau. He was runner-up in 2019 and comes off a T8 at the PGA Championship.
