2020 Wyndham Championship PGA Tour Golf Betting Odds
The Wyndham Championship, originally scheduled for Aug. 6-9 before the coronavirus shutdown, is the last chance for players to qualify for the FedExCup three-event playoffs, which begin next week at the Northern Trust in Boston. The Top 125 in points qualify for that tournament. The Top 70 after that advance to the BMW Championship and then the Top 30 are in the Tour Championship.
Because the Wyndham Championship follows back-to-back mega-events on Tour this season in the WGC-St. Jude Invitational and then last week’s PGA Championship, a lot of top players are skipping this week – including PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa — because they are comfortably in the playoffs already and some already are locks for the Tour Championship. Pretty much every player within shouting distance of No. 125 points is going to be playing, though.
Charl Schwartzel currently sits 125th with Bronson Burgoon at No. 126. Some big names outside the Top 125: Zach Johnson (129), Sergio Garcia (134), Jason Dufner (172), Jim Furyk (179) and Henrik Stenson (200).
The Wyndham Championship has been around since 1938 in Greensboro but in its current form since 2007. That year it was held at Forest Oaks Country Club but has been held at Sedgefield Country Club ever since. The Ross Course at Sedgefield is a par 70 at around 7,125 yards. While the greens are quite small, it’s an easy track and likely will take 20 under par at least to win because it has each of the past four years. Brandt Snedeker shot a 59 here in 2018 and did win the event for the second time.
Wyndham Championship Betting Odds
Simpson is priced at +950 on the Sports Interaction golf odds is a North Carolina native who won here in 2011 and hasn’t been worse than third the past three years. Koepka, priced at +1000, was trying for a historic third straight PGA Championship win but faded on Sunday with a 74 to finish T29. He last played here in 2015 and was T6.
Patrick Reed and Tommy Fleetwood are each +1400. Reed won this tournament in 2013 but hasn’t contended since. It’s Fleetwood’s debut in the event.
The defending champion is JT Poston as he jumped up the leaderboard on Sunday thanks to a final-round 62 to finish at 22-under 258. Poston, who started Sunday three shots off the lead, tied Stenson’s 2017 tournament record total under par but only edged out Simpson by a shot. Simpson shot 65 in the final round. That remains Poston’s lone Tour win and he’s a +4500 longer shot this week because he’s not having a great year (but is safely inside the Top 125 in points).
The lone Canadian to win this event was Stan Leonard in 1957 (then called the Greater Greensboro Open), also at Sedgefield. He finished at 4-under 276, three shots up on American Mike Souchak.
Corey Conners (+5000) and Mackenzie Hughes (not playing this year) were the top Canadian finishers last year at T22, with each at 13 under. Roger Sloan (+30000) was T39 at 10 under. David Hearn played (+30000) here last in 2018 and was T8. Hearn enters No. 157 in FedExCup points and Sloan 178th. Conners and Hughes are both well inside the Top 125.
Wyndham Championship Predictions
Take Simpson and Paul Casey, who was a runner-up at the PGA Championship, for Top 10s. The winner at a longer price of +8000 is Rory Sabbatini. He has three Top 10s in his past four visits.
