Tiger-Cats vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 9 Point Spread, Odds
The Tiger-Cats are priced as 4.5-point favourites on the CFL odds with a total of 54.5 that is easily the highest of the week.
CFL Week 9 Odds and Betting
It’s the first of two meetings between the clubs with Edmonton visiting Hamilton in Week 16 when the Elks should be long eliminated from playoff contention as they sit last in the West Division at 1-5. The only other one-loss team in the league entering Week 9 is Ottawa.
The clubs have spilt the past six meetings. The each won on the road in 2024 with the Tiger-Cats prevailing 44-28 in Edmonton to drop the Elks to 0-7 at the time. Hamilton QB Bo Levi Mitchell completed 17 of 25 passes for 316 yards and five scores, with Tim White (two), Luther Hakunavanhu, Jevoni Robinson and Kiondré Smith all on the receiving end of the TDs. Tailback James Butler had 21 carries for 98 yards and added three catches for 19 yards.
Edmonton didn’t score a touchdown until the fourth quarter when backup QB Tre Ford replaced a struggling McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Ford threw touchdown passes to Kurleigh Gittens Jr., Gavin Cobb, and Eugene Lewis in the loss. Bethel-Thompson was just 10 of 22 for 85 yards and an interception through three quarters.
The Elks won the rematch in Hamilton a few weeks later, 47-22, thanks in part to forcing four Ticats turnovers. Justin Rankin dominated on the ground with 108 yards on 17 carries and three scores. Bethel-Thompson started that one under centre and threw for two scores.
Hamilton is 5-0 ATS in its past five trips to Edmonton and the total has landed over in all five.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats
The Ticats were +2.5 in Week 8 at the B.C. Lions and prevailed, 37-33, for a fifth straight win despite trailing by 10 with less than four minutes remaining. Bo Levi Mitchell continued his stellar season in throwing threw for a season-high 389 yards and three touchdowns; he leads the CFL in passing yards (2,201) and TD throws (15) and has four 300-yard passing games.
Kiondre Smith led the receiving corps with 14 catches for 138 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with 16 seconds to go. Smith led the league in Week 8 with nine receiving first downs. Backup QB Jake Dolegala had a rushing score, while tailback Greg Bell rushed for 56 yards and caught three passes in his return from a two-game injury absence. Marc Liegghio made four converts and three field goals, including a 40-yard attempt. The Ticats didn’t pick off a pass vs. B.C. but lead the league with 11 interceptions and are plus-6 in turnover margin under first-year defensive coordinator Brent Monson. Hamilton is 6-2 ATS in its past eight road games.
Edmonton Elks
We projected the Elks to lose 30-20 at Saskatchewan in Week 8, but they hung tougher than that and nearly upset West Division leaders before falling 21-18 to easily cover the 9.5-point spread. Edmonton coach Mark Kilam decided to make a QB change coming out of a Week 7 bye and started Cody Fajardo for the first time this season. He was under duress much of the game vs. the Riders but completed 26 of 33 for 346 yards and two scores and will start again this week. Fajardo made it interesting late as the Elks trailed 21-4 entering the fourth quarter. The Edmonton O-Line allowed eight sacks, including on back-to-back plays to end the game. The Elks only handed the ball off five times in the loss for a total of five yards.
Fajardo was the team’s leading rusher, scrambling four times for 20 yards. With no running game to fear, defences can load up to rush the quarterback. Penalties were a major problem again as Edmonton was flagged 11 times for 133 yards. Wideout Zach Mathis (14 catches, 143 yards this season) left the loss with an injury and is in question Saturday. Kearis Jackson would likely replace Mathis if need be. Edmonton is 1-5 ATS in its past six at home.
