The Toronto Argonauts look to rebound from their worst defeat of the season and reclaim sole possession of second place in the CFL East standings when they host the archrival Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday night in CFL Week 12 betting action at BMO Field.

The Argos saw a two-game win streak halted by last week’s crushing 42-12 loss in Edmonton while the Ti-Cats snapped a three-game slide with a 26-19 victory over Saskatchewan, leaving the squads knotted in second place, each with eight points. However, the Argonauts maintain one game in hand over Hamilton heading into this weekend’s action.

The Argonauts return home perched as 4.5-point home favourites on the CFL Week 12 odds. The Tiger-Cats trail as +185 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 59.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

Saturday night’s matchup marks the second of three scheduled meetings between these legendary rivals this season. The Ti-Cats eked out a narrow 24-23 victory when the Boatmen visited Steeltown last months, and have now topped the Argos in six of seven meetings, including a trio of victories in Toronto.

However, recent dates between these squads have come down to the wire, with five of their past seven clashes getting settled by three or fewer points. Despite winning by narrow margins, the Tabbies have covered the spread six times during their current 6-1 SU run versus Toronto including four outright wins as betting underdogs.

Hamilton has also covered in their past two outings, ending a 1-4 ATS run, and is 5-3 ATS this season as a betting underdog.

The Argos have gone just 2-4 ATS in their past six overall, and is just 2-2 ATS this season as betting chalk.

High scoring has also been commonplace in recent matchups, with these teams combining to score 59+ total points in five of their past six tilts, fuelling a steady 5-1 run for the OVER in totals betting.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats

With Bo Levi Mitchell not yet close to returning from a serious ankle injury that has sidelined him for most of the summer, the Ti-Cats continue to play musical chairs under centre. Harrison Frost made a second straight start last week versus the Riders, with better results, completing 12 of 16 pass attempts for 112 yards, one TD, and no picks before being forced to leave the game with an upper-body injury.

That opened the door for Tre Ford to redeem himself after producing mixed in the wake of Mitchell’s injury. Ford entered the game after the break with the Ti-Cats trailing and connected on 13 of 17 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown, and kept the Riders defence off-balance with his mobility while rushing for 38 yards on four carries.

The 28-year-old Niagara Falls native also enjoyed a big night in last month’s win over the Argos, completing 21 of 27 passes for 218 yards and one score while also piling up 109 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Toronto Argonauts

Turnovers once again haunted the Argos in a dismal performance last weekend at Commonwealth Stadium, where the passing duo of Chad Kelly and Nick Arbuckle combined to toss a pair of picks, and turned the ball over on downs twice while also going 3-and-out five times.

Overall, the Argos have turned over the ball 11 total times over the past two games, solidifying their dubious position as the league leader in turnovers. And this time, Kelly failed to mask the problem with aerial exploits, tossing for just 265 yards in his first scoreless outing of the campaign.

Indeed, Kelly has now connected in the end zone just four times over the past four games after tossing 14 total TDs in his first five outings.

This squad could also benefit from greater production from their run game. The Argos are 3-0 this season when generating 100+ rushing yards but mustered just 45 total yards on the ground in last week’s defeat.
