The Roughriders are still in the hunt for the top of the CFL West when they close out their regular season schedule on Saturday with a visit from the Stampeders.

The Roughriders enter CFL Week 21 action riding a four-game win streak that leaves them trailing the first-place Winnipeg Blue Bombers. However, their fate may already be decided by game time, with the Blue Bombers scheduled to play earlier in the day against the Montreal Alouettes, who have already clinched first place in the CFL East. The Stampeders close out a forgettable season riding a nine-game losing streak, capped by a last week’s crushing 42-20 defeat in Hamilton that marked their fifth straight loss by double-digit margins and dumped their overall road record to 0-8-0.

The Roughriders get set to hit the gridiron at Mosaic Stadium perched as 3.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 21 odds. The free-falling Stampeders trail as +165 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total sits at 49.5.

CFL Week 21 Odds and Betting

The Riders are poised to rewrite a largely losing narrative when they take on Calgary on Saturday. Saskatchewan rolled to a 37-29 victory in Calgary in their lone previous matchup this season five weeks ago, snapping a dismal 2-8-0 head-to-head run, and are now poised to sweep a season series with the Stamps for the first time since 2018. The Roughriders have lost four straight home dates with Calgary over that stretch and have recorded an October home win over the Stampeders since 2008. However, this is a different Calgary squad the riders are facing this time around. The Stamps have been outscored by an average margin of 13 points while losing four straight overall and have been lit up for 35 points per game during their brutal 0-8-0 run on the road.

Stampeders fans can be forgiven for searching for a silver lining during a lost season, and denying the Roughriders a chance to claim the CFL West crown fits that bill. However, it is tough to be optimistic given these tam’s recent form. The Stamps spotted the Tiger Cats a 30-0 lead through the first 28 minutes of action last weekend, extending a brutal run of slow starts during which the team has tallied just 14 total points and only one touchdown in first-quarter action over their past four games. The team’s freefall has been devastating for quarterback Jake Maier, who will get the call on Saturday in what many observers believe will be his last game as a Stampeder. Maier has been benched for the past two games after struggling in his previous six starts, tossing just five touchdowns against seven picks. However, he managed to keep the Stamps in striking distance in last month’s 37-29 loss to the Riders, going 25-for-31 for 197 yards and two scores.

Saskatchewan Roughriders

The Roughriders wasted no time disposing of the BC Lions and assuring themselves of at least a second-place finish with last week’s 39-8 victory. The Riders put another nail in the coffin of Lions passer Nathan Rourke’s CFL career with AJ Allen’s pick-six on the first drive of the game and never looked back. In addition to overcome a worrisome two-game stretch in which they scored just three total points in the opening frame, the Riders defence slammed the door on opposing attacks after halftime for a third straight game. The return of Trevor Harris from an early-season injury has been key to this team’s success. The Riders attack stumbled while Harris spent six weeks on the shelf, and while they still lost four in a row upon his return, those defeats came by a combined margin of 11 points and preceded what has been a sensational resurgence fueled by the veteran pivot, who has found the end zone 10 times in the past six games.
