Stampeders vs. Lions Prediction: CFL Week 21 Point Spread, Odds
The Stampeders will have one final chance to clinch first place in the West, and they’ll have to go it against a Lions team that already knows their destiny. Just how many regulars play the full game for the Leos?
Betting Analysis
This will be the third and final matchup of the regular season between these two teams, each winning one game so far. In their most recent game, the Lions surprised the Stampeders 26-21 in Calgary back on October 13. In that game, the Lions held the Stamps to just three second half points to seal the win, and prevent them from clinching first place in the West. The Lions are significantly better at home (7-1) then they are on the road (2-7) this season. The Lions are also great against the number on home field, going 6-2 this season against the spread (ATS). The Stampeders are also 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 meetings in Vancouver.
Calgary Stampeders
The Stamps missed another chance to clinch first place in the West and seem stalled at 12 wins on the season. They have been there for almost a month, finding themselves on the wrong end of a three-game losing streak. First place is still in their grasp. With a win in Vancouver they’ll earn the division and a first-round bye. If they do win, they will enter the West final for the seventh consecutive season.
Last Friday the 29-21 loss to the Blue Bombers was flattering to the Stampeders especially when you break down the numbers. The team rushed for a mere 59 yards total (five players), led by Don Jackson who carried the ball eight times for 38 yards. The Stampeders need more from Jackson, especially at this time of season. In fact, Jackson hasn’t had a 100+ yard rushing game since September 3 (115 yards vs. Eskimos). Newly signed Chris Matthews played in just his third game as a Stampeder and showed the star quality signs that got him an NFL contract with five catches for 115 yards. It’s all hands on deck for the Stampeders this weekend so expect a good showing.
BC Lions
The Lions saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 35-16 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina. Their playoff spot already guaranteed, but with a loss this weekend, combined with a Blue Bombers win would mean the Lions will have to pack their bags and head to Hamilton for the cross-over game on November 11. The Lions offence struggled mightily versus the Roughriders, with only 71 total yards of offence in the first half, and 195 for the entire game. The Riders forced three turnovers from the Lions that was a big part of the loss.
Running back Tyrell Sutton had his worst output as a Lion this past weekend rushing for 50 yards on 12 carries. In his two previous games he racked up 203 yards. He’ll play a limited role in the team’s final regular season game of the year. Same can be said about both quarterbacks. Expect Travis Lulay to start this game, with Jonathan Jennings playing a role, and don’t be surprised if third stringer Cody Fajardo gets some playing time as well.
