RedBlacks vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 12 Point Spread, Odds

The Edmonton Elks finally did it: they won a game. They hadn’t won a single game this current season and entered riding a 13-game losing streak dating back to last year. However, that’s ended now as they’ve finally gotten on the board.
They’ve actually been quite competitive the last couple of weeks now and that’s part of why they’re such a small home dog on the CFL odds to the Ottawa Redblacks. Can they keep their momentum going and pick up the win on Sunday?

CFL Odds and Betting

Ottawa is 1-4 ATS in their last five games played out on the road and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games played during the month of August. In terms of the total, the over has cashed in four straight games following a loss and five of their last six overall.

Flipping over to Edmonton, they are 18-40 ATS in their last 58 games played at home. They are also just 7-20 ATS in their last 27 matchups when they are coming off an ATS win in the previous matchup. As for the total, the under has hit in eight of their last 11 games overall.

Ottawa RedBlacks

The Redblacks continue to be effective on the ground while remaining ineffective through the air. During their loss to the Montreal Alouettes last week, quarterback Dustin Crum threw for 130 yards and an interception without a touchdown. Meanwhile, their starting running back, Devonte Williams, took nine carries for 64 yards. He was averaging seven yards per carry but didn’t receive enough work to make a difference in the outcome.

All in all, Ottawa is the number one team in the league with 124.9 rushing yards per game but that’s also large in part to Crum’s running. They need that to continue to be competitive here but Crum has to be more effective as a passer. He’s been under 175 yards passing in three of the last four games. That’s not good enough in a league where passing is the path to success.

Edmonton Elks

The Elks finally got on the board with a win. It took an efficient night from the offence to get the job done and the hope is that those efforts continue. Quarterback Tre Ford completed 13 out of his 18 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. This helped running back Kevin Brown pace the ground attack with 89 yards on 16 carries.
They didn’t light the world on fire but this was just a solid showing that was enough. Hamilton moved the ball well but stalled in scoring range, then went one-for-four on field goal attempts. The win wasn’t a definitive arrival or a turning of the tide for the Elks, but it was a win. Considering they hadn’t had any in the last 13 contests, this was welcomed. The question is can they do more going forward?

Offence has been a problem for this group all year long and they still rank eighth in the league in passing yards per game and eighth in total yards per contest. They are also ninth in points per game, putting up a measly 15.8 points a night. With Ottawa’s offence also labouring, maybe under is the best play in this contest.
