RedBlacks vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 5 Point Spread, Odds
It’s the battle of the bottom-feeders on Sunday in Edmonton, with the two last place teams in each division set to clash. The 0-3 Elks are still looking for their first win of the year following a 36-23 blowout loss in Winnipeg last week, while 1-3 Ottawa is coming off a 29-16 home loss against Toronto.
The RedBlacks are slim 2.5-point favourites on the CFL odds, with the total listed at 52.5.
CFL Odds and Betting

Ottawa took both head-to-heads last season, winning outright as a four-point underdog in Week 6 and covering again as a one-point favourite just six days later.
Dating back to last season, neither of these teams have been kind to bettors. The RedBlacks are just 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 games (1-3 ATS in 2025), while the Elks are 1-7 ATS in their last eight (0-3 in 2025).
If you’re looking for any faith that points to Edmonton winning this game straight up you could point to Ottawa’s 1-7 SU record in their last eight road dates. Of course, the Elks have lost 15 of their last 20 home games, so take that all with a grain of salt.
To no one’s surprise, Edmonton has the longest Grey Cup odds at +4000 on the CFL futures board. Oddsmakers have more faith in the RedBlacks, who have the fifth-shortest Grey Cup odds at +1000.
Ottawa RedBlacks
It was a bit of a freak result for Ottawa last week, who were burned with Toronto scoring two long defensive touchdowns. Quarterback Dustin Crum put up decent two-way numbers, finishing with 235 passing yards (20-for-30) with 60 rushing yards and a score. Crum failed to throw a TD pass, however, and he was sacked five times.
The good news for the RedBlacks is they could be getting back QB1 Dru Brown this week. Brown, who has been out since suffering a hip injury in Week 1, took first team reps at practice on Wednesday and looks like he’s in line to start. The fifth-year pivot completed 34 of 41 pass attempts against the Riders in Week 1, finishing with 413 passing yards and two TDs.
Unfortunately, Ottawa will be without receiver Bralon Addison, who is out two to four weeks with a shoulder injury. Addison (220 yards, one TD) and Geno Lewis (219 yards, one TD) have been the RedBlacks’ most productive receivers this season.
Edmonton Elks
After a rough Week 1, quarterback Tre Ford has looked better, throwing for 560 total yards with three TDs and one interception over the last two games. Ford completed 18 of 29 pass attempts for 252 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions last week. Kaion Julien-Grant had his best outing of the season last week, finishing with 115 receiving yards and a touchdown.
There are a couple of statistics on both sides of the ball that really demonstrate just how bad Edmonton has been this season. Offensively, the Elks rank dead last in passing yards per game and third-last in points per game. And defensively, they are allowing a league-high 35 points per game while no one else is giving up more than 28. Edmonton’s losing streak could be far from over.
