RedBlacks vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 10 Point Spread, Odds

It’s top of the division versus bottom of the division as the East-leading Toronto Argonauts welcome the last place Ottawa Redblacks to BMO Field on Wednesday night.  Both teams are riding high after wins in their last outings.  The Argos took down Montreal 30-27 in Week 8 and should be rested after a bye, last week.  The Redblacks took a gamble on a rookie quarterback in Week 9 and it paid off with a 34-24 win against Edmonton.  Which team can stay in the win column on Wednesday?

CFL Odds and Betting

The Argonauts took all three meetings against Ottawa in 2019, winning the final two at home.  It was a fairly high scoring season series, with two of three games clearing the Over.

Outside of last week’s win, the Redblacks have been a mess in 2021.  They’ve lost 16 of their last 18 games overall, dating back to 2019, and they’re 1-8 straight up in their last nine road games.  Don’t bank on them to cover either, as they’re 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games.  The total has gone Under in four of Ottawa’s last five road games.

Toronto leads the East Division largely because of their perfect home record and they come into this game 5-0 SU in their last five home contests.  They’re an even 3-3-1 ATS this season and they’re 4-0-1 in their last five at home.  The total has gone Under in four of Toronto’s last five games overall.

Ottawa RedBlacks

Rookie quarterback Caleb Evans’ first career CFL and professional start went about as well as it could, as he led Ottawa to just their second win of the season.  Evans was 15-for-22, finishing with 191 passing yards and three touchdowns.  He also added a team-high 59 rushing yards on seven carries.  The performance helped the Redblacks snap a five-game losing streak overall and 11-game home losing streak.  Ryan Davis (67 yards on five receptions), Kenny Stafford (44 yards on two receptions) and Timothy Flanders (16 yards on two receptions) all hauled in TD catches.  R.J. Harris led all receivers with 80 yards on four catches.

Last week’s win was the biggest upset of the season in the CFL.  Heading into the game, the Redblacks were as high as +360 underdogs to win the game and 70-to-1 long shots to win the Grey Cup.

As far as injuries to watch for, leading up to Wednesday, running back Justin Davis (knee), defensive lineman Ese Mrabure (hand) and defensive back Brad Muhammad (hamstring) have all missed practice time this week.  Linebacker Adam Auclair (shoulder) returned to practice on Sunday, but was limited.

Toronto Argonauts

Toronto headed into last week’s bye on a high after downing the Alouettes.  McLeod Bethel-Thompson picked up his second win of the year under centre, going 13-for-29 and finishing with 210 passing yards and two touchdowns.  The bye week came at a good time for the banged up Argos.  Bethel-Thompson started in place of Nick Arbuckle, who is dealing with a minor hamstring injury.  On Monday afternoon it was announced Bethel-Thompson will make his second straight start Wednesday night.

Canadian linebackers Henoc Muamba (hamstring) and Cam Jordan (ankle) also missed the Montreal game.  Muamba wasn’t listed on this week’s injury report, so he’s expected to play.  Jordan hasn’t practiced this week and will likely be out of the lineup.  Starting receiver Eric Rogers was a late scratch in Week 8, but he was a full participant in practice this week and should be good to go Wednesday.
