Nik’s Picks: CFL Week 11 Predictions, Point Spreads, Odds

The CFL is back with a 14-game season, and Week 11 features just three games that include Week 10 rematches between Winnipeg and Edmonton as well as Montreal and Ottawa, followed by an all-West clash featuring Calgary and BC.

Nik’s Picks is here for you to gain on edge on the lines throughout the 2021 CFL season.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Edmonton Elks

CFL Odds and Point Spreads: Winnipeg -13.5, Over/under 43.5

The Bombers obliterated the Elks last Friday, and one week later Edmonton’s moving forward with a different quarterback. A healthy Trevor Harris won’t even dress for the Elks in the latest questionable decision coming from Edmonton management. After all, this is a club that surrendered six points in safeties in their 30-3 loss at Winnipeg.

Taylor Cornelius gets his third CFL start instead, and his second of the season versus Winnipeg. Last time out Cornelius threw for 243 yards and three interceptions, one of which went back for six; the blue and gold actually scored twice on defence off a strip sack of Cornelius.

Winnipeg’s by the league’s best defence too. They’re allowing 12.2 points against, 5.4 yards against per play, and have an 8-1 record while giving up eight touchdowns all season. Is two touchdowns on the road hard to cover? Yes, but this Bombers team looks unstoppable.

Winnipeg 26 Edmonton 12

Best bet: Under 43.5

Montreal Alouettes at Ottawa Redblacks

CFL Odds and Point Spreads: Montreal -5.5, Over/under 45.5

Vernon Adams Jr. is on the six-game injured list for Montreal, so it’s Matthew Shiltz under centre for his first start since September 2019. Shiltz has looked solid in relief both of these past two weeks, throwing for 161 yards on nine completions and 13 attempts. He’s been a member of the Als since 2017 too, so familiarity is another bonus for the backup turned starter.

The 2-7 Redblacks took a serious blow to their playoff odds in Week 10, but Caleb Evans continued to show promise while under constant pressure from the opposing defences. The 23-year-old pivot has 650 passing yards and 177 rushing yards through three starts.

The Redblacks aren’t showing any quit, which is another plus. Ottawa’s defence for the most part is performing better, getting Abdul Kanneh and Sherrod Baltimore in the secondary helps, but is still suffering costly busted coverages. If they continue, Shiltz should capitalize.

Montreal 23 Ottawa 18

Best bet: Under 45.5

Calgary Stampeders at BC Lions

CFL Odds and Point Spreads: Pick’em, Over/under 44.5

A playoff position is up for grabs in BC Saturday night in the latest Bo Levi Mitchell–Michael Reilly showdown. Reilly got the upper hand in round one this season, as his Lions defeated the Stamps 15-9 back in Week 2. Mitchell threw a season-high four interceptions in the loss, and his turnover problem has lingered all season as he’s the only quarterback with double-digit picks.

The Lions are rested off a bye but will be without leading receiver Lucky Whitehead who’s recovering from a broken hand. Aside from Whitehead, BC’s getting healthier as receiver Lemar Durant and defensive backs Jalon Edwards-Cooper and Marcus Sayles are back practising. In Calgary, leading receiver Kamar Jorden was back practising as a limited participant Wednesday.

BC’s offence is tied for first in yards per play and has committed the fewest turnovers this season. When it matters, right now Reilly’s more likely to get the job done than Mitchell.
