The Stampeders return from last week’s bye riding a two-game losing streak that leaves them two points back of the BC Lions in the hunt for third place in the CFL West standings. The Elks saw a three-game win streak stopped by last weekend’s 21-17 loss in Montreal and enter the weekend trailing the Lions by four points.

The Stampeders are perched as slim 3-point favourites on the CFL Week 13 odds. The Elks trail as +140 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 51.5.

Monday evening’s matchup is the first meeting of the season between these two rivals and the first of two head-to-head clashes over the next week. The Elks claimed a narrow 25-23 victory when these teams last met 51 weeks ago. However, the Stampeders have otherwise dominated in head-to-head action, winning 15 of their past 19 dates with the Elks and 10 of their past 11 Labour Day Classic matchups, including a 35-31 victory last season.

The Stampeders have also dominated on the CFL odds when facing Edmonton, going 7-3-1 against the spread in their past 11 dates, but have seen three of their past four Labour Day victories come by just a single score.

Edmonton Elks

The Elks squandered their chance to record a fourth straight win while blowing a 17-6 halftime lead in last week’s 21-17 loss to the Alouettes. The squad’s sudden offensive struggles follow an impressive performance during their 3-0-0 run, during which they averaged 40.7 points per game. However, the Elks had their chances, driving deep into the Montreal red zone late in the game before being shutdown by a stout Als defence.

Despite the loss, quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson turned in another steady performance, tossing for 200 yards and two scores. Running back Kevin Brown busted out for 100 rushing yards in his first game action since Week 8, but failed to find the end zone and enters Sunday’s action as a +100 bet on the CFL player props to score his first touchdown of the season.

Calgary Stampeders

For the second time in as many outings, the Stampeders blew an early lead in their 31-29 loss to the Ottawa RedBlacks two weeks ago. The Stamps also squandered a 15-7 halftime lead on their way to a crushing 39-25 loss in Toronto a week earlier and have now scored just three total points in third-quarter action while losing three of their past four games.

For the second time in four games, quarterback Jake Maier failed to find the end zone while tossing for just 269 yards. Maier also failed to connect on a scoring pass in last season’s Labor Day date with the Elks. However, rusher Peyton Logan has picked up the slack, running for touchdowns in each of the past two games and sits ato the CFL player props as a -145 bet to score a TD on Monday.
