Elks vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 16 Point Spread, Odds
The Toronto Argonauts can take a giant leap towards clinching a berth in the CFL playoffs with a win on Saturday afternoon, when they play host to the CFL West-leading Edmonton Elks in CFL Week 16 betting action at BMO Field.
The Argos extended their lead over third-place Hamilton in the CFL East standings with last week’s narrow 26-23 win over Ottawa, and clinch a postseason berth with a win on Saturday combined with a Tiger-Cats loss in their Friday night date with Montreal.
The Elks locked up at least a playoff berth with last week’s 53-16 rout of Calgary that extended their current win streak to four games, and their lead over Saskatchewan for the top of the CFL West to four points with just four games remaining on their regular season schedule.
The Elks arrive in Toronto perched as slim 1.5-point road favourites on the CFL Week 16 odds. The Argonauts are pegged as a +100 CFL moneyline bet and the total is listed at 62.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Saturday afternoon’s contest marks the second and final meeting of the season between these squads. The Elks rolled to a dominating 42-12 when the Argos visited the Alberta capital last month and have now topped the Boatmen in three of four overall meetings.
However, it is the Argos who have held the upper hand in dates in Toronto, winning five straight while scoring an average of 35.2 points per game.
Both these teams have regularly run up the score this season. Toronto has averaged 31.5 points over their past four contests and almost 33 points per game in three home dates, but has remained a shaky bet, covering in just four of 10 outings, and just once in back-to-back games over that stretch.
The Elks have soared to the division lead during a 7-2 SU run, and have scored 36+ points five times over that stretch. That has helped generate steady success on the CFL odds, going 7-2 ATS in their past nine.
Edmonton Elks
After escaping with a narrow 36-28 win in Calgary on Labour Day, the Elks found a higher gear in their rematch with the Stampeders last week at Commonwealth Stadium, turning in their most productive offensive performance of the season in a crushing 56-13 win.
The Elks did endure a slow start, spotting the Stamps an early 7-3 lead before unleashing an offensive onslaught that produced six touchdowns and 441 total yards of offence.
Cody Fajardo connected for three TDs while tossing for 232 yards and has now found the end zone five times over the past two games and 23 times in total while scoring in every game of the season to date.
Toronto Argonauts
With Chad Kelly firing on all cylinders, the Argonauts managed to hold off the pesky RedBlacks in last week’s victory to finally lift their record above .500 to 7-6-0. Kelly tossed for 443 yards and two TDs and has connected for 11 total TDs over the past four games. However, he has also continued to struggle with accuracy, tossing two interceptions to bring his season total to 20.
Both David Ungerer III and Tyler Kahmann enjoyed big days downfield. Ungerer led the way with 175 receiving yards and one score, highlighted by a sensational 85-yard reception while Kahmann caught all eight targets sent his way for 105 yards in his fourth 100+ yard performance of the season, and second in three games.
