Blue Bombers vs. RedBlacks Prediction: CFL Week 6 Point Spread, Odds
The Ottawa RedBlacks will have Dustin Crum under centre when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday in CFL Week 6 action at TD Place Stadium. The RedBlacks have elevated Crum to a starting role in the wake of a serious leg injury that will once again force veteran pivot Jeremiah Masoli to miss the remainder of the 2023 CFL season. The loss of Masoli is a massive blow to the RedBlacks, who enter the weekend at the bottom of the East Division standings with a 1-3-0 record after falling 21-13 in Hamilton last weekend. The Blue Bombers are coming off a 24-11 victory over Calgary that leaves them tied with BC atop the West Division standings at 4-1-0.
The Bombers opened as 8.5-point favourites, and have since vaulted to -9.5, with -120 odds of covering. The RedBlacks have faded to +315 moneyline underdogs, and the total has crept up to 44.5 since opening at 43.5.
CFL Week 6 Odds and Betting
Saturday night’s matchup marks the first and only regular season meeting between these teams this season. That is good news for the RedBlacks, who have lost five straight to Winnipeg, and eight of their past nine, while going 2-7 against the spread over that stretch. But while four of the Blue Bombers’ eight recent wins over Ottawa have come by double-digit margins, both of last season’s matchups proved to be tight low-scoring affairs, with Winnipeg outscoring the RedBlacks by an overall margin of 38-29 in two wins while extending extending a steady run for the UNDER to 4-0.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers
After running up the score while opening their season with lopsided victories over Hamilton and Saskatchewan, the Bombers have leaned heavily on a stout defence to earn wins in each of their past two contests. After spotting the Stampeders an early 10-1 lead last week, the Bombers slammed the door, limiting the Calgary attack to just 215 yards of net offence in their 24-11 win. That follows a stingy performance in a rain-soaked clash in Montreal on Canada Day, in which they prevented the Als attack to drive into Winnipeg territory until after halftime on their way to a 17-3 win. Quarterback Zach Collaros has remained quietly effective during the team’s 2-0-0 run, tossing for two scores in each of the past two games, and now sits alongside BC’s Vernon Adams Jr. with a league-high nine touchdown passes.
Ottawa RedBlacks
Dustin Crum faces a daunting task in what will be his first ever CFL start. In addition to losing Masoli for the rest of the season, the RedBlacks were also forced to demote Nick Arbuckle, who opened the campaign as the team’s starter, but failed to find the end zone while tossing for just 286 yards and four picks in a pair of appearances. Overall, the RedBlacks have produced just one scoring pass during their 1-3-0 start, and have averaged just 16.5 points per game. However, the defence has held up their end, allowing more than 21 points just once through their first outings, generating a boon for bettors taking the UNDER, which has gone 4-0 do far this season.
CFL Prediction: Who Will Win Blue Bombers vs. RedBlacks?
With the possibility of rain in the forecast on Saturday, this could develop into another low-scoring affair. However, that should not prevent the Bombers from covering a big spread against the beleaguered RedBlacks.
