Argonauts vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 11 Point Spread, Odds
The Argonauts claimed sole possession of second place with last week’s 33-30 victory over the visiting Calgary Stampeders while improving their straight up record on the season to 4-4-0. The Elks saw their undisputed hold on first place in the CFL West end with last weekend’s 48-30 loss in Montreal that extends their current slide to two games.
The Elks get set to hit to hit the gridiron on Saturday as 3.5-point home favourites on the CFL Week 11 odds. The Argos lag as +155 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at a lofty 62.5.
CFL Week 11 Odds and Betting
These teams split a pair of meetings last season, with each squad capturing a win at home, capped by the Argos’ narrow 31-30 victory last September. With that win, the Boatmen snapped a three-game head-to-head losing streak. Recent dates between these teams have been hard fought, with four of their past five clashes getting settled by three or fewer points including a trio of contests settled by a single point. These teams have also regularly run up the score, with the total reaching 60 or higher in five of their past seven matchups. However, the OVER has gone just 4-3 over that stretch. After failing to earn a SU or against the spread win in their first three July contests, the Argos have won and covered in each of their past two contests. However, they have produced middling results on the road, compiling a 3-3-0 record while tallying consecutive victories just once over that stretch.
After storming to a 6-1-0 start to the season, the Elks have cooled off with a pair of losses, capped by last week’s 48-30 beating Montreal that was not as close as the score indicates. Overall, the Elks have now surrendered 36.7 points per game over their past three outings after surrendering just 17 points in each of their previous two outings. And while they sport a solid 3-10 record at home, two of those victories have come by three or fewer points.
Toronto Argonauts
The Argos did just enough to win in last week’s seesaw battle with the Stampeders, in which the lead changed hands a half dozen times before Toronto sealed the victory with a field goal in the dying seconds. Chad Kelly bounced back from a neck injury suffered two weeks beforehand, connecting on 30 of 43 passes for 349 and one TD. Kelly also tossed four interceptions for the second time this season. The Argonauts managed to claim victory in both those contests, but Kelly can ill afford to struggle with accuracy against an Elks defence that has forced the most turnovers in the CFL this season. Samuel Hicks demonstrated his versatile with a team-high 54 rushing yards to go along with one TD catch and one scoring run. Hicks has now topped 50 rushing yards on four occasions while piling up 373 rushing yards and four total touchdowns.
Edmonton Elks
While the Elks looked like world beaters during their 6-1-0 start, deficiencies have been exposed in their recent losses to the Montreal and Saskatchewan. Indeed, the Alouettes were dominant in every aspect of last week’s game while racking up a 41-18 lead before the Elks made it a respectable result in garbage time. Quarterback Cody Fajardo threw a pair of TD passes while completing just 60% of pass attempts for an average of 6.6 yards per attempt, both season worsts, and matching a season low with just 231 ;passing yards. Fajardo has also connected for just one total TD before halftime in the past two games. Cracks have also appeared in the vaunted Elks defence, which allowed Davis Alexander to connect for 352 passing yards and four TDs last week, and has surrendered nine total TD passes over the past three games.
