The Montreal Alouettes are on an incredible run of close games – so you can’t blame them for wanting something a little easier Saturday night as they tangle with the host B.C. Lions. The Alouettes have played seven consecutive games decided by seven or fewer points, and oddsmakers like the chances of that streak continuing this weekend. The Lions are mired in last place in the West Division, but are a respectable 3-3 against East opponents this season.

CFL Odds and Betting

This line quickly shot up in the Lions’ favour after opening at -2; B.C. has struggled for most of the season but is coming off back-to-back one-sided wins over the Ottawa Redblacks while Montreal comes in having covered just four of its past 21 visits to Vancouver. But the Lions have struggled to reward bettors in recent weeks, having gone just 1-4-1 ATS in their last six home games. Montreal, on the flip side, is a red-hot 11-3 ATS in its previous 14 on the road.

The total has moved only slightly, down one point from an opening of 50. And when it comes to encounters at BC Place, these teams get low; they’re 12-5 to the under in their last 17 meetings in Vancouver. And B.C. has put together five consecutive unders heading into the weekend, with three of those games coming in below 40 total points. But the Alouettes have been a strong short-term over play on the road, going 5-2 O/U in their last seven.

Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes are coming off their most eventful week of the season: Not only did they rally from a 20-point fourth-quarter deficit to stun the West-leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers 38-37, they also lost star QB Vernon Adams Jr. to a one-game suspension following a helmet-swinging incident in that same game. Matt Shiltz will line up under center in place of Adams; he is 11-for-16 for 107 yards in parts of two games with the Alouettes this season.

BC Lions

Avoiding Adams – who threw for 488 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Winnipeg – is a major coup for the Lions, who watched him account for all three scores (one passing, two rushing) in that Sept. 6 defeat. B.C.’s pass defence has been run ragged this season, having allowed the second-most touchdown passes (19) while recording just 18 sacks through 13 games, tied with the Alouettes for the fewest in the CFL.
