Alouettes vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 16 Point Spread, Odds

There’s major playoff implications on the line in Week 16 as the Argonauts host the Alouettes in an East Division matchup.

Montreal currently holds second spot in the East with a 6-7 record and they also have the tiebreaker over third-place Toronto, who are 5-8. The Als already beat the Argos twice this season, meaning Toronto needs to be a full game ahead of Montreal to claim second place as this is the regular season finale.

The Alouettes are 6.5-point favourites to win on the CFL odds, with the total pegged at 50.5.

Montreal is going for the season sweep after downing Toronto 28-10 in Week 1 and 26-25 in Week 7. This comes a year after the Argos won three of four total head-to-heads, including a 30-28 victory in last year’s East Division Final.

The Alouttes should be happy to be on the road this week as they are 4-2 in away dates compared to just 2-5 at home. It likely makes no difference for the Argonauts, who have a losing record both home (3-4) and away (2-4).

Both teams are 5-8 against the spread, but the edge belongs to the Als. Montreal is 4-2 ATS on the road, while Toronto is 2-5 ATS at home.

Despite being the last two Grey Cup champions, oddsmakers don’t have a lot of faith in either team this year. The Alouettes are +450 to win the Grey Cup on the CFL futures board, trailing Saskatchewan, Hamilton and Calgary. The Argonauts are +2000 to win the Grey Cup, ahead of only Winnipeg, Edmonton and Ottawa.

Montreal Alouettes

Montreal should be riding high after taking out the league-leading Saskatchewan Roughriders 48-31 last week. Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson (elbow) returned from a stint on the six-game injured list to throw for 378 yards and two touchdowns. Tyson Philpot had a monster night with a career-high 238 receiving yards and two TDs. Stevie Scott led all running backs with 125 rushing yards on 19 carries.

In addition to Bethel-Thompson’s return, the Als continue to get healthier. Philpot, Austin Mack, Marc-Antoine Dequoy, Justin Lawrence and Mustafa Johnson have all returned over the last couple of weeks and have made immediate impacts in the lineup.

Toronto Argonauts

The Argos have bounced back from a 2-8 start to the season, winning their third straight game last week, 31-30 over Edmonton. Nick Arbuckle tossed for 261 yards with two TDs and four interceptions before suffering a lower-body injury late in the game. Jarret Doege finished the final drive, completing three of six passes for 35 yards.

With Arbuckle joining Chad Kelly in the injury room, Doege will get his second-ever CFL start on Friday. The Lubbock, Texas native began his CFL career with the Elks in 2023 before signing with Toronto ahead of the 2025 season. It’s a step down at quarterback for the Argos as Arbuckle leads the CFL with 4,089 passing yards and he ranks second with 25 passing TDs. Prior to last week, Doege’s only game action this season was a one-yard rushing touchdown.
