Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. Betting Odds & Prediction

Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. Odds Analysis

“Iron Mike” is a -251 favourite on the boxing odds as of this writing with Jones Jr. at +174.

This fight is scheduled for eight rounds; it was originally to be contested Sept. 12 but pushed back. Alas, there still will be no fans in attendance with the coronavirus spiking even worse now.

An argument can be made that boxing’s slide from being a mega-popular sport in the United States and Canada started when Tyson’s slide from the top of the heavyweight division also began. Tyson once was the youngest heavyweight champion ever and arguably the most feared boxer in history. Fight fans could literally see some of his opponents were truly terrified; can anyone forget his knockout of unbeaten Michael Spinks at 1:31 of Round 1 in June 1988? One month after the fight, Spinks announced his retirement.

Maybe the biggest upset in American sports history was when Tyson lost his invincibility factor and title belts to James “Buster” Douglas in Tokyo in February 1990. However, the beginning of the end truly happened when Tyson lost another title bout to Evander Holyfield in late 1996 and then lost the rematch to Holyfield in June 1997 when Tyson memorably bit off a chunk of Holyfield’s ear and eventually was disqualified. Now 54, Tyson lost three of his final four fights overall, last in the ring in June 2005 vs. a less-than-stellar fighter named Kevin McBride. Tyson finished 50-6 with 44 knockouts.

Jones Jr., frankly, is more accomplished a fighter than Tyson as Jones Jr. won an Olympic silver medal for Team USA in the Seoul 1988 Games and should have won gold but was robbed by the “hometown” judges. Jones would go on to win professional titles at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight and was named by several organizations as the Fighter of the Decade in the 1990s.

Now 51, Jones did win his final four fights before calling it quits; he was most recently in the ring in early 2018 vs. Scott Sigmon. Jones finished 66-9 with 47 KOs.

Tyson vs. Jones Jr. Odds Broadcast and Viewing Information

Here are the other main card fights: YouTube persona Jake Paul (-164) vs. former NBA player and three-time Slam Dunk champion Nate Robinson (+128) at cruiserweight; Badou Jack vs. Blake McKernan at light heavyweight; and Viddal Riley vs. Rashad Coulter at cruiserweight. Odds on those latter two legitimate fights are TBA.

Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. Winner Prediction

Clearly, this fight will depend on which guy cares more, and it sure seems that Tyson is big time into this. Check out social media and Tyson is in fairly incredible shape amid rumours he wants to officially return to the sport like George Foreman did at very late age. Tyson is a much thicker guy than Jones, who will have three inches of reach advantage.

Both have vowed to knock the other out, but that seems unlikely. Tyson wins by decision.

How to Bet on Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.

Placing a wager on a boxing match is a lot like betting on fights in the UFC. You can bet on who will win the fight, how they’ll win it (TKO for example), how long the fight will last, and often many other unique betting options called props.

In a boxing match, the favorite will be priced with a negative number, and the fight underdog will be priced with a positive number.

    Mike Tyson -250

    Roy Jones Jr. +173

In the example above, Mike Tyson is the favorite at -250, and that number means that you need to wager $250 on Tyson in order to win $100. When you bet on the underdog, your $100 bet could win you a much bigger payout if the underdog wins the fight. If you bet $100 on Roy Jones Jr. at +173, you will win $173 in profit if he wins the bout.
