Jake Paul vs. Andre August: Boxing Odds, Prediction

YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul returns to the ring Friday night in Orlando, Florida to take on the relatively unknown Andre August in a cruiserweight fight. This will be Paul’s first headline bout to not be on pay-per-view as he tries to change the narrative that he cherrypicks retired or inexperienced opponents looking for a big payday.

Paul is a -600 favourite to win on the boxing odds, while August is a +350 underdog.

Jake Paul Boxing Odds

Paul is 7-1 since his first professional boxing fight in January 2020. Last time out, Paul fought former UFC star Nate Diaz in August, winning by unanimous decision. Taking on aging or retired former MMA stars has been a staple for Paul and something which critics and detractors have used to delegitimize his boxing career. He’s also recorded victories over other former UFC standouts like Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva, although all three were well past their prime and not known as standout boxers.

“The Problem Child’s” only fight against a legitimate professional boxer ended in the only loss of his career. He lost by split decision in February against Tommy Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight world boxing champion Tyson Fury. To be fair to Paul, it was a close bout and he actually knocked Fury down in the eighth round. Two judges scored it 76-73 in favour of Fury, while one had it 75-74 for Paul.

This is a good matchup for Paul. The 26-year-old is almost 10 years younger than August and August has never fought in front of a crowd as big as the one that will watch this fight, so there’s a question mark on how the veteran boxer will handle the limelight. Paul’s last three fights have gone the distance, but if the adrenaline takes over August and he let’s his guard down, Paul has a serious right hand that could end this fight early.

Andre August Boxing Odds

August is a legitimate opponent with a 10-1-1 record since turning pro in 2013. He last fought in August, winning by unanimous decision to hand Brandon Martin his first career loss. It’s worth noting, however, that even though August has faced actual boxing professionals his whole career, the combined record of his opponents is just 34-65-6.

There’s not much info surrounding August, who is a fairly unknown fighter from Houston. The biggest knocks against him in this fight will be his age and size. At 35-years-old, he’s almost a decade older than Paul and at 5-foot-10 he is three inches shorter. August will also be at a massive six-inch reach disadvantage.

Five of August’s 10 career wins have come by knockout, so he clearly has the power to end this fight if he can land a few solid shots, but his last four bouts have all gone to decision. As much as it might pain real boxing fans to hear, it seems like a tough ask for August to hang with a younger, bigger fighter, even if it is Jake Paul.
