Dereck Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev II: Boxing Odds, Prediction

Dereck Chisora and Kubrat Pulev first met in a battle for the vacant European heavyweight title in may 2016. Pulev eked out a narrow 12-round split decision in that fight and has since maintained his winning ways. The only loss over his past 10 contests came against Anthony Joshua in a failed bid for the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles in December 2020. Conversely, Chisora has fallen on hard times, falling to defeat in each of his past three outings to drop his pro boxing record to 32-12-0.

Chisora’s recent struggles are reflected in the boxing odds, where he is pegged as a +203 underdog. Pulev is perched as a -285 favourite to pad his current 29-2-0 record.

Dereck Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev Betting Analysis

Saturday evening’s main card is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m. ET at the O2 Arena in London, England. The main event is expected to get underway at approximately 6:00 p.m. ET.

Chisora has been regularly pegged as a betting underdog in recent contests. The 38-year-old sported +240 odds in his last outing, a unanimous decision loss in a rematch with Joseph Parker with the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight title on the line. Overall, Chisora has sported average odds of +240 during his current three-fight slide, ending a stretch of three straight fights as betting chalk.

Pulev is coming off a unanimous decision win over Jerry Forrest as -350 chalk just two months ago. He has sported negative odds in all but one of his past eight fights, his December 2020 loss to Joshua as a lengthy +600 underdog.

Dereck Chisora

Currently mired in his longest losing streak in a decade, Chisora finds himself at a crossroads entering Saturday’s action. “Del Boy” was widely outclassed in his recent rematch with Parker, who knocked him down three times on his way to a decisive win by decision. That marked a big step back for Chisora. He had actually started strong in his first date with Parker, tallying a knockdown just seconds into that contest before steadily fading as a the fight wore on.

While Chisora has finished opponents in 23 of his 32 career wins, age may finally be catching up with him. The Zimbabwe native has struggled to keep pace with opponents in later rounds during his current slide. That was particularly true in his October 2020 date with Oleksandr Usyk. Chisora was clearly exhausted, but still managed to survive 12 rounds before being handed a unanimous decision loss.

Kubrat Pulev

While Chisora increasingly appears to be in the twilight of his career, Pulev has seemingly gotten better with age. The 41-year-old Bulgarian landed right hands at will on his way to a lopsided unanimous decision win in a 10-round clash with Forrest earlier this year. That marked “The Cobra’s” first run appearance since getting beat up in a ninth-round KO loss to Joshua 18 months earlier.

However, the former world heavyweight championship contender has otherwise systematically disposed of opponents during his current 9-1-0 run. Pulev has demonstrated his punching power with crushing KO wins over Bogdan Dinu and Maurice Harris. He has had little difficulty going deep while extending his record in fights that have gone the distance to a perfect 14-0-0.

Prediction: Pulev by KO, TKO or DQ (+225)
