2023 Hungarian Grand Prix Prediction: Formula 1 Betting Odds
Max Verstappen has been simply dominant while compiling a massive 99-point lead in the F1 Drivers Standings after just 10 races, claiming eight victories and two second-place finishes to date.
Verstappen claimed his first career in Hungary last year, claiming victory by a wide margin of 7.834 seasons, and considering his recent dominance, it is no surprise that he has emerged as a heavy -315 favourite on the Hungarian Grand Prix odds board. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez follows, knotted with veteran Fernando Alonso at +1200, while Lewis Hamilton rounds out the top of the odds as a +1400 wager to claim a record ninth career win at this race.
Hungarian Grand Prix Race Time, Weather Forecast
Lights out at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix is scheduled for 9:00am ET on Sunday morning at Hungaroring. There is a risk of rain during both Friday practice and Saturday qualifying, but the forecast for race time on Sunday calls for mostly sunny skies and temperatures reaching into the high 20s Celsius (low- to mid-80s Fahrenheit).
Will Verstappen Ever Lose Again?
Verstappen’s current spectacular run of success has not been overlooked by the oddsmakers. Now just two victories shy of Sebastian Vettel’s record of nine straight trips to the top of podium, the 25-year-old two-time defending champion has built up such a big lead in the Standings that odds on him winning a third title are no longer available.
In addition to his podium success, Verstappen has also produced the fastest lap in three of his past four outings, and five times in total this season. He has also claimed the pole position in five straight outings, and taken home the checkered flag in each of his seven races as pole sitter. Accordingly, the best option on the F1 odds board this weekend for Verstappen fans is the -152 odds of him earning the win and producing the fastest lap.
Can Hamilton Recapture Magic in Hungary?
While Verstappen is reaching new levels of success in his bid for a third straight F1 title, it has been tougher sledding for seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, who has failed to claim the checkered flag in almost two years. However, sports bettors fade Hamilton at their own peril in Hungary, where he has won eight times including three of the past five years.
And after a moribund start to the season, Hamilton has shown better pace of late, thanks to recent upgrades by Mercedes. The 38-year-old powered to a third-place finish in his home race at Silverstone two weeks ago, and has now reached the podium in three of four outings.
Hamilton and his Silver Arrows teammate George Russell face a new challenge in the form of the McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who turned heads in Britain by finishing second and fourth, respectively. Indeed, Norris and Piastri have also enjoyed recent upgrades that have not only improved their pace, and given them an edge on corners, which they should once again enjoy at Hungaroring. Accordingly, McLaren is a solid +400 bet to produce a second straight double top six finish.
However, Hamilton’s recent form and track record in Hungary make him worth backing as +120 wager to reach the podium this weekend once again.
Predictions: Max Verstappen win and fastest lap (-152); McLaren double top six (+400); Lewis Hamilton podium finish (+120)
