Blue Jays Starting Pitcher Kevin Gausman Returns to Action Saturday
Kevin Gausman, who is in the conversation for the American League Cy Young award, missed his last two potential starts at home to the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres. He had been suffering from pain on the left side of his body. It was reported on Thursday that he’s feeling much better and will take to the mound this Saturday in Seattle against the Mariners.

Pitcher Kevin Gausman Returns to the Blue Jays’ Lineup
In the lead-up to the home stand versus Arizona, it was made public that the ace wasn’t feeling well on his left side. As such, he was kept out of the lineup. With Alek Manoah back from the minors, at least the Jays had five starters.
Since then, they have fallen twice to San Diego and have seen their offensive production sink. With a road trip on the horizon, Kevin Gausman’s return to form is a blessing.
The 7-5 win-loss record might not look like much, but the 3.03 ERA and 153 strikeouts tell the tale of a strong 2023 season. Atlanta Braves’ Spencer Strider leads MLB with 189 Ks. Gausman is also tied for third in the majors with 14 quality starts. Given how inconsistent the Toronto Blue Jays offence has been this year, there is no question that having a starter of his calibre gives them a chance every time he plays.
At the time of publication, the Blue Jays host the San Diego Padres in the finale of their three-game set.
