Canada vs. Cameroon Prediction: 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Odds
This is the 8th FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the previous one in 2015 played in Canada and won by the United States. With every passing Women’s World Cup, the interest in women’s soccer increases. This year, 750,000 tickets have already been sold for the tournament within a few days of them going on sale.
There are two stages in this tournament, the group stage and the knockout stage. In the group stage, the 24 qualifying teams are placed in six groups in which they must play one game against every other team in their group. The winner of each game gets three points. If it’s a draw the team gets one point. The sixteen teams with the most points move on to the knockout stage.
Canada vs. Cameroon World Cup Betting Odds and Analysis
Canada and Cameroon, who are in Group E along with the Netherlands and New Zealand, will kick off their Cup journey on Monday at Stade de la Mosson stadium in Montpellier, France. La Masson is where Montpellier HSC of Ligue 1 plays and it was used for 6 matches in the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
As of this writing, Sports Interaction has Canada as the -679 favorite and Cameroon the long shot, priced at +1700. The odds for a draw are set at +570. Although Canada is favored to win Group E, it won’t be as easy as Canadian fans might hope. They must play the Netherlands who are the Euro 2017 champions and New Zealand who are the Oceania champions, not to mention Cameroon, who have the potential to surprise.
Canada
In 2015 the Canadian women’s team got to the quarter finals of a World Cup that was played in their home territory. Signs of improvement were seen when they took home bronze medals in the 2016 Olympics. This year they are favorites to win their Group in the first stage of the World Cup. One of the most convincing reasons they are favored to do well? Christine Sinclair.
Canada’s captain Christine Sinclair will turn 36 during this year’s tournament, which is the fifth Women’s World Cup she’s played in. Sinclair is a goal-scoring machine, and is just four goals away from being the all-time top goal scorer in international soccer. Sinclair has 180. USA’s Abby Wambach has 184.
Not only does Canada have Sinclair in the lineup, they also have a very impressive defence that they’ve been perfecting for this very occasion. Steph Labbé will be Canada’s number one goalkeeper with veteran Erin McLeod backing her up. Labbé was the starting goalkeeper for Canada in the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she helped her team win bronze. McLeod has played for Canada in three Women’s World Cups. This year, the Canadian team has logged 1-0 wins against Norway, Scotland and England, which is a good sign for the team’s defensive capabilities coming into this huge event.

Cameroon
Cameroon made their first appearance on the World Cup stage four years ago in Canada. They were impressive in that tournament, progressing from the group stage and then losing to China in the knockout stage. The Indomitable Lionesses got through the group phase that year with an impressive 6-0 win over Ecuador and a 2-1 defeat of Switzerland.
Cameroon has played 11 times at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Four of those times they were runners up. Leading them is Cameroon’s all-time scorer Madeleine Ngono Mani, who has scored 40 goals in her 17-year career with this team. Another player to watch is Gaelle Enganamouit, a powerful forward who got a hat trick against Ecuador at the 2015 World Cup.
Cameroon has a new coach this time around, with Alain Djeumfa being appointed national coach in January of this year. He has been vocal about his team’s primary goal for this World Cup – to advance out of the group stage.
