The Toronto Blue Jays continue their road trip Tuesday night by making a visit to Atlanta, the team with the best record in all of baseball. The Braves are -125 favourites for the opener of the three-game set on the MLB odds with a total of 7.5 runs.

Betting Analysis

No doubt the Blue Jays are a bit disappointed having begun this trip splitting four games in Baltimore simply as they won the first two at Camden Yards and scored five runs on both Saturday and Sunday but dropped both to fall to 12-18 away on the year.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers remain the favourites to three-peat as World Series champions, the road to the NL pennant will go through Atlanta should the Braves hang on to the best record in the Senior Circuit, and those two might go down to the wire for that honour. It has been a terrific turnaround campaign so far for the Braves after their streak of seven straight playoff appearances ended in 2025 with a 76-86 mark.

That led to manager Brian Snitker not returning. The team hired former MLB shortstop and ex-Colorado Rockies manager Walt Weiss, and he’s a betting favourite for NL Manager of the Year. No doubt this club is good enough to win its second World Series since 2021, and ownership is widely expected to sign off on adding any salary needed at the trade deadline. Atlanta’s rotation has been hit hard by injury, so a starting pitcher might be at the top of the list.

Toronto took two of three at home vs. Atlanta last season but lost two of three its last trip to Truist Park in 2024.

Toronto Blue Jays

Monday’s off day was surely needed as Toronto played its 17th game in 17 days Sunday. The last thing the injury-ravaged Blue Jays was needed was another player hurt, but outfielder Jesus Sanchez was pulled from that loss in Baltimore due to a right wrist contusion. It happened when a fan accidentally threw a ball from the stands and hit Sanchez, who apparently has avoided any serious issue. Yohendrick Pinango replaced Sanchez in right field during Sunday’s game and homered and likely would start Tuesday if Sanchez isn’t ready.

Righty Kevin Gausman (4-3, 3.13 ERA) takes the mound Tuesday. He was dominant in May other than one rough home outing vs. Tampa Bay on May 11, allowing only four total earned runs in his other four starts in the month. The 35-year-old is 2-1 with a 3.45 ERA in five road starts. In four career starts vs. the Braves, Gausman is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 25.2 innings. Matt Olson has had some success off him at 4-for-16 with two homers. The over is 5-2 in the Blue Jays’ past seven.

Atlanta Braves

Atlanta has lost only three series all season and won another over the weekend at Cincinnati despite losing Sunday’s finale. Former NL MVP Ronald Acuna Jr. is starting to heat up as he homered for the fourth straight game Sunday (five total in that stretch). It’s the fourth time in Acuna’s career he has gone yard in four straight games with his career high at five in a row in his 2018 rookie season. Acuna won Rookie of the Year then and catcher Drake Baldwin did in 2025, but he remains on the injured list with an oblique injury and still has no timetable to return. Baldwin was off to a great start, batting .303 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs in 48 games.

Righty Bryce Elder (4-3, 2.50 ERA) is scheduled on the mound Tuesday. It has been a huge bounce-back year for the 27-year-old after really struggling the previous two seasons. Elder is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA in seven home starts. Elder’s lone career start vs. Toronto in 2023 was a no-decision in which he allowed two runs over five at Rogers Centre. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 1-for-2 off him with a double. The Braves are 4-2 in their past six vs. the AL.
