The WNBA’s first overall draft pick, Iowa guard Caitlin Clark, is the talk of the league, and the club that drafted her, the Indiana Fever, are about to play the Dallas Wings for their first preseason game.

The game was originally scheduled for 11:30 a.m., but has moved to a prime time slot with tip-off set for 7 p.m. on May 3. Fans in Texas, eager to watch Clark play, made quick work of selling out their team’s first game in Arlington. The team has sold out of season tickets for 2024, which has never happened before for the franchise. Individual ticket sales are up 1,170% as the Clark Effect takes hold.

How does the WNBA season work?

Caitlin Clark Improves Odds For Indiana

After securing Caitlin Clark as the No. 1 overall pick, the Indiana Fever are hoping to improve on their 13-27 showing in 2023.

According to Sports Interaction’s latest odds, the Fever are expected to make significant strides this season, with a regular season win total set at 20.5, and the chance to make the playoffs set at -250.

How to Bet on the WNBA

Indiana hasn’t made a postseason appearances since their first-round exit in 2017.  As of this writing, they stand fifth in championship odds at +1800, having claimed their one and only title in 2012.

Clark is also, unsurprisingly, a strong contender in various award categories, including MVP and Rookie of the Year.

While a -650 bet on Clark may seem steep, history suggests it’s a safe bet. Of the last 16 Rookie of the Year winners, 11 were the top picks of their draft years.

With Clark now at the helm, the Fever’s offense, ranking sixth in the league last season in OR and points per game, is expected to rise significantly.

Caitlin Clark Season Prop Odds

Fans of the WNBA have some pretty high expectations for Clark’s first season.

In 2023, New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu set a WNBA single-season record with 128 3-pointers. It’s expected that Clark could challenge that record in her rookie year.
