NFL Preview: Patriots Can Down Wounded Packers
With Aaron Rodgers likely out, Al Dannity doesn’t like the Packers’ chances on the road against New England.
Patriots ready to rock
New England have played above-average lately, based on Tom Brady’s standards. Based on NFL standards, they have been flat-out amazing, out-scoring their last three opponents 126-34. The Patriots are used to winning in December under Brady, with only the margin of victory being anything out of the ordinary for the three-time Super Bowl winner at this time of year. This Sunday night was supposed to be a test between Brady and one of the emerging stars of the game, Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately the Green Bay quarterback is almost certainly going to miss this game. That means Matt Flynn will step in and take on the arduous task of beating the Patriots on the road.
Flynn is not a bad quarterback. He didn’t set any pulses racing against Detroit last week but in the right situation he’s the type of player who could do a job in this league. Leading a Green Bay team which has endured more than its fair share of injuries against the Patriots on the road really isn’t the right situation. While New England’s secondary remains a concern for Bill Belichick, Flynn simply hasn’t been working with the first team long enough to have a chance to exploit this weakness. It probably won’t be quite the type of routs we saw over the last two weeks but New England should still win comfortably.
Dolphins can squeeze out another victory
Fans in Miami are well used to tight finishes to playoff races and 2010 promises to be no different. The Dolphins currently stand at 7-6, two games out of the Wildcard but with three games still to play they have a shot if they run the table. Last week saw Miami pick up a crucial victory over the Jets and now they must dispatch another divisional rival.
Not too many people dislike the Buffalo Bills, there’s usually a bad reason for that. It’s hard to hate a franchise that has suffered this much. The Bills’ glory years are even tales of despair, losing four straight Super Bowls, and the current crop in Buffalo can’t so much as sniff at a trip to the playoffs. The play of Ryan Fitzpatrick this season has at least given fans something to enjoy. He should be able to do enough to keep the Bills in this game but I don’t like them to make it two wins in a row, following last week’s triumph over Cleveland. The Dolphins are on a mission, bet on Miami as -5.5 favorites with Sports Interaction.
