Super Bowl LI 2017 Props: Lady Gaga, Mayweather, Trump Odds
What makes the Super Bowl different from any other sporting event in the world is the number of wagers available on the game. Sure, you have the normal football-specific bets but also some very unique propositions — those are called exotic props. You won’t see similar options for any other event in 2017. While I can’t tell you who will win the Puppy Bowl, although I’ll be watching, here’s a look at some of Sports Interaction’s exotic Super Bowl LI prop bets.
Halftime Show Prop Bets
Did you know that the NFL doesn’t pay those big-name performers for their halftime shows? The league figures the millions upon millions of free viewers is payment enough, and there was even a report a while back that the league was pondering having the talent pay the league to perform. That idea was quickly shot down. This year, Lady Gaga gets the coveted halftime role. She is expected to have a tour later in 2017, and with all this publicity it seems likely to do better financially than her Monster Ball Tour in 2011 which grossed only $239 million. Last year, a week after Bruno Mars played the Super Bowl halftime, his album Unorthodox Jukebox jumped from No. 7 to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 as sales spiked 92%.
The Grammy-winner Lady Gaga sang the national anthem before Super Bowl 50. Country singer Luke Bryan gets that call here. That Lady Gaga wears a hat or headdress is a -150 favourite. That she wears an outfit that exposes her midriff is -150 as well.
Gaga vs. Trump?
How about an “I voted Hillary” T-Shirt? That’s a cool +2500. That of course refers to Hillary Clinton, who was expected to win the US presidential election in November as the Democratic candidate, only for Republican Donald Trump to pull off perhaps the greatest upset in American presidential history. To say Lady Gaga, a self-proclaimed Democrat and Clinton supporter, is anti-Trump is being kind. There have been reports the NFL told Lady Gaga that she couldn’t say anything about Trump or the election during the show. That she says anything about President Trump during the show is +125 with no at -175.
Will anyone do a guest performance with Lady Gaga? Beyonce (+125) and Tony Bennett (+150) are the favourites. Billboard.com is reporting that Lady Gaga will go at it alone, but that could be a smokescreen from Lady Gaga’s camp. If it’s true, she will be only the eighth performer in the halftime show’s history to perform without guests.
Predictions: I have no idea what Lady Gaga wears, but I do think she somehow works Trump into the show even if very briefly. And I’ll go with Bennett as a guest as one reputable media outlet said he would be there. He would also appeal to older viewers.
Tom Brady Prop Bets
Could Super Bowl LI be the final game in Tom Brady’s Hall of Fame career? If he’s not already considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history, winning a record fifth Super Bowl ring would cement that legacy. At 39, Brady has tied Peyton Manning from last year as the oldest QB to start a Super Bowl. Of course Manning retired after leading the Broncos to the upset of Carolina in Super Bowl 50.
Manning really struggled last season and looked washed up so his retirement wasn’t a surprise. Brady played at an MVP level this regular season and set an NFL record for touchdown-to-interception ratio at 28:2. Back in December, Brady said he envisioned playing 5-6 more years, and he keeps himself in fantastic shape with a very unusual/healthy diet and workout regimen. He’s not a normal 39-year-old. The oldest player to ever play in an NFL game was 48-year-old George Blanda.
That Brady retires immediately after the Super Bowl is a yes-only prop at +250.
Also, it’s well known that both Brady and Patriots owner Robert Kraft are not just Trump supporters but considered friends with the US President. When Trump was in the midst of scandal after scandal, Brady pulled away a bit publicly but has seemed back in Trump’s corner now that he’s President. It was news in September 2015 when a “Make America Great Again” hat was seen hanging in Brady’s locker. That Brady puts that exact hat on after the game is yes-only at +2500.
Predictions: No & no.
More Super Bowl Prop Betting
Pizza Prop Betting
More pizzas will be consumed on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year in the United States. Pepperoni is the most popular U.S. pizza topping, followed by mushrooms, sausage, ham and green peppers. According to the Domino’s web site, it sells more than 11 million pizza slices on Super Bowl Sunday, nearly 350% more than a typical Sunday (yet Halloween is the busiest delivery day of the year). The total for this prop for Super Bowl LI is 11.5 million, with the over a -140 favourite.
Floyd Mayweather Super Bowl Prop Bets
One of the most famous American athletes who also happens to be a prodigious bettor is retired (supposedly) boxer Floyd Mayweather. There was one report, since disputed, that “Money” lost around $10 million (US) on the Broncos in their loss to Seattle in the Super Bowl three years ago. For the Falcons-Packers NFC Championship Game, Mayweather said on Instagram that he placed a $30,000 bet on the first half, taking the Falcons — and they easily covered the spread with a 24-0 halftime lead. For what it’s worth, Mayweather says he doesn’t place bets worth more than between $1 million and $1.5 million. That’s chump change for him.
There are options on the amount Mayweather bets on this game, with nothing at +110, followed by $100,001-$250,000 at +175. A bet of $1 million-$1.5 million is +600.
Predictions: Under on the pizza, only as it’s better value at +100. Mayweather will lay down a cool $50K, which is +220 at between $0-100,000.
