2026 World Cup Odds: Alphonso Davies closing in on return to the pitch

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off June 11 of next year, with Canada, the United States and Mexico co-hosting. Bayern Munich superstar Alphonso Davies will be the most important player for Canada, but the national team is missing their captain after he suffered a torn ACL in March.

The good news is Davies should be back at full health in time for next year’s World Cup, which sees co-host Canada as a +10,000 long shot to win on the World Cup odds. The favourites are Spain (+500), followed by Brazil (+600) and France (+650).

The 24-year-old Davies has been back in Germany running on the pitch in individual workouts for almost a month.

“I feel very good,” Davies said in an interview with fcbayern.com. “It took a while, but now I’m just happy to be back out in the fresh air and able to run faster than five kilometres per hour. In the first few months after the injury, I could only walk. Being able to jog a little bit again definitely feels different.”

Davies is roughly five months into his recovery and Canadian men’s national soccer head coach Jesse Marsch said last week that he expects Davies to be back on the pitch for Bayern and Canada by November.

Bayern dominated in their Bundesliga season-opener last Friday, blowing out RB Leipzig 6-0 at home.
