Peru vs. Canada: Copa America Betting Odds
Despite losing 2-0, Canada had a great showing against the No. 1 ranked team in the World, Argentina, in their opening match of the 2024 Copa America. Peru opened the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Chile and likely need a win against Canada to have a shot at reaching the knockout round.
Canada and Peru are set for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff on Tuesday, with the Canadians opening as +135 favourites to win on the Copa America odds.
Peru vs. Canada Betting Odds
There’s not a lot of history between these teams. They’ve only met twice, both international friendlies, with each team scoring a 3-0 road victory. As far as their competition history, Peru won the Copa America in 1975 and they finished fourth in the last edition of the tournament. Canada has not been a mainstay in international tournaments and this is their first Copa America.
Peru, No. 31 in the FIFA world rankings, sits at +6600 to win the tournament after one match. The 48th ranked Canadians are +8000 on the Copa America futures board. Peru is +200 to qualify for the knockout round and -275 to be eliminated in the group stage. Canada is +225 to qualify and -350 to lose in the group stage.
Peru
La Blanquirroja trailed Chile 65 per cent to 35 per cent in possession time, but managed four shots on target compared to Chile’s one. Peru captain Luis Advincula was subbed off with an Achilles injury in the 34th minute and isn’t expected to play on Tuesday, although he hasn’t been ruled out of the tournament. Manager Jorge Fossati blamed the field at AT&T Stadium, an issue that has been brought up about a number of locations in the tournament. Marcos Lopez will replace Advincula in the lineup.
Peru’s defending has been strong in the lead up to the tournament, with the team keeping clean sheets in each of their last three matches across all competitions. Overall, Peru is unbeaten in 2024, posting four clean sheets in five matches. Generating offence has been a different story, however, as they have only scored in four of their last 11 matches. It won’t get any easier as Peru has faced the like of Nicaragua (130th in the world) and Dominican Republic (150th) in recent matches, so Canada represents a significant step up in competition.
Canada
Les Rouges held their own against the top ranked team in the world in their tournament opener, holding Argentina to a scoreless draw at the half thanks to some timely saves by goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau. Canada has just one win in their last five matches across all competitions, but they have had a much tougher schedule than Peru, facing Argentina (No. 1 in the world), France (No. 2) and the Netherlands (No. 7) in their last three matches.
Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies wore the captain’s armband against Argentina and manager Jesse Marsch is expected to stick with a similar lineup against Peru. This is a big opportunity for the Canadians as Peru, who is at the bottom of South American World Cup qualifiers, is a big drop in competition compared to their recent schedule. Circle Jonathan David as a +195 anytime goalscorer against Peru. David’s 19 goals in 30 starts for Ligue 1 club Lille last season was second only to Kylian Mbappe and his 26 goals in 49 international appearances is three behind teammate Cyle Larin as most all-time among Canadian men.
