Toronto FC vs. Montreal CF MLS Betting Odds, Picks: Josh Sargent +125 for anytime goal
The Canadian Classique hits the turf for matchweek 28 of the MLS season as the battle for the playoffs intensifies.
Both Eastern Canadian sides struggle near the bottom of the table, but that doesn’t mean this fixture won’t make for an energized Saturday matchup.
Watch the 401 derby between Toronto FC and Montreal CF at BMO Field with a kickoff time of 1 p.m. ET.
Toronto FC vs. Montreal CF MLS Odds and Betting Trends
The Canadian Classique dates back as far as April 2012, with a total of 49 matches played between the two sides.
Toronto holds the slender advantage, winning 21 times compared to Montreal’s 20, while there have been eight draws.
Montreal hasn’t won against their Canadian rivals in the last six meetings, last tasting success in August 2023.
While neither side is in particularly hot form, Toronto takes a massive home advantage at -120 to win on the three-way moneyline.
Montreal, who currently sit at the bottom of the East, find themselves as +250 underdogs, with a draw set at +290.
The under 3.5 goals is priced at -166, a more favoured result than the over 3.5 at +1300.
Toronto FC
Toronto would be lucky to make playoff status this year as they currently sit at 12th place in the league with 29 points and the second-highest goals-allowed count (only behind Montreal) at 51.
For the side to have any hopes of making wild card status for the playoffs in their remaining 11 games, they’ll have to win at least half their matches.
Luckily for the Reds, they did beat first-place Nashville 2-1 on Sept. 9, although three straight losses followed up to Sept. 26, which was their most recent 2-0 defeat in a rematch against Nashville.
Toronto has scored only one goal in their last three games, seven in their last five, averaging about a goal per game in recent months.
It won’t be an easy matchup by any means despite how vulnerable Montreal is, but Toronto striker Josh Sargent leads the way in scoring anytime at +125 odds, netting seven times this season.
Montreal CF
Montreal are currently one of the worst defensive teams in the MLS, as they sit at the bottom of the East in 15th place with 24 points, 54 goals allowed and a -20 GD, second to only the West’s Sporting KC.
Montreal may have an equal number of wins to their Canadian opponents (six) but have suffered 15 losses overall to get to this point.
But it’s possible they turned a new leaf for the final third of the season after defeating the Whitecaps 2-1 in the Canadian Championship semifinal. They did swallow another 2-0 defeat to Columbus just three days later, but right before the international break, they secured a triumphant 3-1 victory over Cincinnati at home on Sept. 26.
Prince Owusu has played a huge role in upping Montreal’s results, scoring a late brace in his last game for his 15th tally of the season. Owusu will certainly be the man Toronto needs to watch here, as he enters the match set to score anytime at +145.
MLS Prediction: Who Will Win Toronto FC vs. Montreal CF?
Nearly half of Montreal’s goals come from one player, which isn’t the case for Toronto, so if Owusu stays man-marked for most of the game, this may spell trouble for the 15th-placed side.
Another factor to look at here is that Montreal haven’t won a game on the road since August 19, whereas Toronto haven’t lost a home game since May 9 (to Inter Miami).
But Montreal’s current form is visibly better than Toronto’s, which could make for an interesting prediction. However, it’s hard to see Montreal winning on away grounds, which, based on how Toronto is susceptible to ties, makes for another 1-1 draw by the end of 90′ for this one.
