CF Montreal vs. Charlotte FC: MLS Betting Odds, Picks, Predictions

CF Montreal host Charlotte FC at Stade Saputo on Wednesday, and the two clubs are trending in almost opposite directions.

Charlotte are unbeaten in five (3-0-2) and sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with 36 points, even after playing the final 19 minutes of Saturday’s scoreless draw with Houston Dynamo down to 10 men.

Montreal, meanwhile, have been outscored 9-1 across back-to-back MLS losses: a 7-1 blowout at Inter Miami and a 2-0 defeat at Philadelphia. They sit last in the East at 21 points from 23 games. 

The form gap is enormous, but Montreal still carry a surprisingly lopsided head-to-head record into this one.

Oddsmakers have this line tighter than the form disparity would suggest: Montreal are priced at +120 to win at home on the MLS odds, Charlotte are +180 underdogs, and the draw sits at +270. The total is 2.5 goals, with the Over favoured at -180, and Both Teams to Score leaning Yes at -210. 

Although Charlotte is higher in the Eastern Conference standings, Montreal is 5-1-2 in their seven meetings. However, the road team won both meetings last season, so the visitors will feel confident after last season’s 1-0 road victory.

It’s been a brutal stretch for the hosts. Montreal shipped seven at Inter Miami on August 29 and then fell 2-0 at Philadelphia last Saturday, with Danley Jean Jacques breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute before Quinn Sullivan sealed it with his third goal in as many matches. This result leaves Montreal bottom of the Eastern Conference with 23 games gone. Prince Owusu remains the one consistent threat in this attack, leading the club with 13 goals and six assists, and he’ll need another big night against a Charlotte side that’s without its captain. 

Montreal will also be shorthanded: Bode Hidalgo, Josh-Duc Nteziryayo, Efrain Morales and Frankie Amaya are all out, though the only expected lineup change is Brandan Craig pushing for a recall at centre-back. The history here cuts against the current form, though. Montreal have won five of the last eight meetings in this series to Charlotte’s two, including a 4-1 rout at Bank of America Stadium last September.

Charlotte arrive in far better shape, but they’re dealing with their own personnel headache. Captain Ashley Westwood picked up two yellow cards for dissent in the 71st minute against Houston and will serve a suspension, while Djibril Diani is also unavailable after crossing the yellow-card threshold; a notable hit to a midfield that’s carried Dean Smith’s side through this unbeaten run. Archie Goodwin and Luca de la Torre are candidates to step in. 

Pep Biel leads Charlotte with 11 goals and seven assists and has been directly involved in most of the good things the Crown have done going forward, while the club has also taken 11 of a possible 15 points in its last five matches to climb into playoff position. Charlotte’s issue in this series specifically has been road form against Montreal; they’ve lost four of the last five meetings in Canada, with their only win at Saputo Stadium coming in a 1-0 result back in April 2025. Missing both Westwood and Diani doesn’t make snapping that trend any easier.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win CF Montreal vs. Charlotte FC?

Best bet: Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score (-130)

This is the same angle that paid off in my Toronto FC vs Chicago Fire preview, and the numbers line up again here. Montreal have been the league’s leakiest defence for most of the season and just conceded nine across two matches; Charlotte have scored freely even while playing short-handed. 

With the total sitting at 2.5 and the Over already favoured across multiple books, I’d rather back the goals than pick a side. Charlotte’s superior form and Montreal’s missing centre-back options tip the scales for me on the result, even with history on Montreal’s side.
