2026 FIFA World Cup France team odds, betting predictions
After coming so close to becoming the first country in 60 years to win back-to-back World Cups, France enters this year’s iteration poised to add to its trophy collection in manager Didier Deschamps’ swan song.
Les Bleus boast exceptional depth and attacking talent. That includes all-world forward Kylian Mbappe, who scored 42 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid this season and is the reigning World Cup Golden Boot winner.
With a favourable group, France are again legitimate favourites to go deep.

France odds
France is level with Spain at +450 each to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although dark-horse Norway and Senegal reside in Group I with the French, along with Iraq, Deschamps’ squad is favoured to win it at -250.
Mbappe, who won the Golden Boot with eight tallies four years ago, is the favourite to repeat at +500. He has scored in two consecutive World Cup finals. AC Milan’s Mike Maignan is among the favourites to win the Golden Glove as the tournament’s top goalkeeper at +450.
France squad strengths
With star power present at every level of the pitch, France’s biggest strength is its world-class attacking depth and individual quality. Mbappe still ranks among the world’s best, and he should be fully recovered after a left hamstring injury ended his club season prematurely in April.
Ousmane Dembele, the reigning Ballon d’Or holder, had 18 combined goals as PSG repeated as Ligue 1 and Champions League winners. And Michael Olise had a second straight standout campaign for Bayern Munich, leading the Bundesliga with 19 assists while adding 15 goals for the champs.
Those two provide creativity and flair up top, while the midfield is anchored by the Rodri-like presence of Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, giving Deschamps excellent control in the middle.
Defensively, the backline featuring William Saliba, Ibrahima Konaté, and Jules Koundé is among the strongest in the tournament. Deschamps loves utilizing a flexible, high-pressing style that transitions quickly into attack.
France squad weaknesses
Good luck. France historically lacked focus in big tournaments, but Deschamps famously captained the squad to its first World Cup victory in 1998 and its second European championship two years later, in 2000.
This is his fourth and last World Cup at the helm. His teams have won 14 games, including the 2018 World Cup final. They have lost just twice in regulation.
However, the French are famously prone to lose interest at times. They dropped their group stage opener as defending World Cup champions to Senegal back in 2002, and they are normally good for one group stage clunker, like their 1-0 defeat to Tunisia four years ago.
Maignan is solid, but he’s not world-class, and the backs can occasionally be exposed. Negative press followed Mbappe toward the end of his Real Madrid campaign. Will that follow him to North America?
As one of the co-favourites, any sign of letdown can start the dominoes falling quickly for the French.
2026 FIFA World Cup France prediction: Kylian Mbappe top goalscorer (+500)
France has several intriguing betting options. They are +500 to get eliminated in the semifinals, +150 to reach the final, and +450 to win the whole tournament. It would take a monumental 2010-like squad revolt for the French to not again go deep in the World Cup, and that just won’t happen while Deschamps is in charge.
Mbappe is a great X-factor here. Will he be able to eliminate the slightly controversial last several weeks with Real Madrid? This is his third World Cup. He scored four goals as a 19-year-old in 2018 for the champions. He doubled that tally four years later for the finalists. Can he do it again?
At +500, Mbappe stands as a very attractive option to win the Golden Boot again. And if you are confident that France can rebound and win this tournament and Mbappe will consistently find the back of the net again, you can take France to win the World Cup and Mbappe to be the top goalscorer right now at +1200.
