Honda Indy Toronto Odds, Prediction: Alex Palou favoured to lead the pack

Alex Palou, the reigning IndyCar champion, is coming off a tough visit to Iowa Speedway, which was cut short by an accident in the first race of the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend. However, the 27-year-old Spaniard still maintains a comfortable 35-point lead over second-place rival Will Power in this year’s standings. Power is coming off a victory in the second race at last weekend’s Grand Prix of Iowa and will be gunning for his fourth career win in Toronto.

Palou arrives in Toronto as a +300 favourite on the Honda Indy Toronto odds. However, Power sits well back of the favourites as a +1000 bet. After finishing third or better in four of his past five racers including a win in the first race of the Grand Prix of Iowa, Scott McLaughlin sits second to Palou as a +425 bet while Payo O’Ward rounds of the top of the odds board at +650.

Honda Indy Toronto Race Time, Weather Forecast

Race time for the 2024 Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Heavy flooding hit the Toronto area this week including the site of this weekend’s race. However, the deluge will have no impact on race day conditions, with sunny skies and temperatures expected to reach into the mid- to high-20s Celsius on Sunday afternoon.

Palou the Driver to Beat in Toronto

Palou has picked up where he left off last season, which he finished with five wins and a 78-point lead over his closest competitor on his way to his second IndyCar title in three years. With his second-place finish in the second race at the Grand Prix of Iowa, Palou has now recorded five top-two finishes so far this season and has only finished outside of the top 10 twice in 11 race appearances so far this season. Palou has also enjoyed success in two previous appearances in Toronto, capped by a second-place finish last season, and can take another stranglehold on the top of the standings by claiming the checkered flag this time around.

As for Power, the talented Australian managed to make some noise in the IndyCar standings with his win in Iowa, but has struggled to produce consistent results. While Power has won twice in his past six outings, he has also finished well out of the top 10 on three occasions over that stretch and has failed to crack the top 10 in Toronto since his most recent victory on this circuit eight years ago.

Christian Lundgaard Looks to Repeat in Toronto

Christian Lundgaard returns to Toronto as the defending champion at this event, but faces a tough task to reverse what has been a disappointing start to the season. The 2022 IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year has managed to crack the top 10 just once in his past seven races, capped by 17th and 22nd -place finishes in Iowa and finds himself alongside Power as a +1000 bet on the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy Toronto odds.

Conversely, Scott Dixon has been a fixture among the top 5 this season including wins in Long Beach and Detroit. That consistency extends to past appearances in Toronto, where he claimed the checkered flag for the fourth time in 2022 and now returns to the Honda Indy as a high-value +700 bet to reach the top of the podium once again.

Prediction: Scott Dixon (+700)
