The Canadian Women’s team will face France in the quarterfinals of the Olympics tomorrow at 6pm EDT. Canada’s showing in the round robin play so far has been remarkable. They took out two of the world’s top five countries on their way, winning Group F with ease.

Team Canada beat Australia 2-0, Zimbabwe 3-1, and then overcame their underdog status in a game against Germany, which they won 2-1, with their B-team, and without team captain Christine Sinclair.

As it currently stands, the 10th-ranked Canadian team are the +308 underdogs to beat the number 3 ranked French team. France is the favorite at -127, and the chance for a draw currently is priced at +262.

Coach John Herdman said of his Olympic crew that “this is a Canadian team that’s very gritty, that’s got a good spirit. And at this point, they’re not overconfident…there’s a quiet confidence about them.”

The Canadian team will need that quiet confidence going into their match against France. The French team beat Columbia 4-0 in their opener, then lost 1-0 to Team USA, only to return with a statement win against New Zealand 3-0. In their last three games against each other, Canada has been beaten every time. That said, Canada was able to win against France at the London Olympics four years ago, which they accomplished on their road to a bronze medal.

Canada vs. France Prediction

Canada has had an incredible run so far at the Rio Olympics, but the strength and experience of this French team will give them the advantage in this match-up. France wins 2-1.
