  • Chile +900

Canada won the only match ever played between these two teams, and that game was played back in 2013, where the Canadians earned a narrow 1-0 win against the Chilean side.

A win against Chile would put the Canadians in a much better position in this group stage against Great Britain. The two top teams from each of the three groups will move forward to the knockout stage, along with two wild card teams.

Team Canada

The Canadians are on the hunt for their third consecutive medal in these Tokyo games, but to reach that goal, they’ll need a big win. Their opening match of these Olympic games was against the host country – Japan – who were favored on the Olympic betting odds. Canada held a 1-0 lead until the 84th minute of the match, when Mana Iwabuchi got the tying goal. Canada wasn’t able to score again and had to settle with a draw – and the single point in the standings.

Eyes will be on the status and health of star goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé, who left the game against Japan after a Japanese player fell on her in the penalty area. Regardless of her injury and the obvious pain she was in, Labbé stayed on the field long enough to make a huge stop on an ensuing penalty kick.

Labbé is questionable for Saturday’s with her rib joint injury, and will be replaced by Kailen Sheridan, winner of the NWSL’s top goalkeeper at the 2020 Challenge Cup and nominee for top player of the 2021 season at the ESPYs.

Team Chile

Chile earned their place in these Olympics Games after finishing runners-up at the 2018 Copa America and after qualifying for their first World Cup in 2019. They had a real test ahead of them to start their run in Tokyo, and faced Team Great Britain earlier this week.

Chile is coached by Jose Letelier, who has this team ranking amongst the best 40 teams in the world for the first time ever.

They were dominated by Great Britain, however, and only had one shot on the net throughout the entire game. Great Britain had possession of the ball for 61 percent of the match. Britain came away with a 2-0 victory and three points on the tournament board.
