Minnesota Wild
The Wild’s offence has been stifled by the Blues’ defence. Outside of Kirill Kaprizov, who leads the Wild in goals and the NHL in the playoffs with seven, Minnesota’s offence has been non-existent. If Minnesota wants to avoid elimination they need to get more from their offence. Kevin Fiala, who scored 30-plus goals in the regular season, has yet to score.
Defensively, the Wild have not been great. Does all of that fall on goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury? No, but he needs to play better. In their two wins, Fleury has looked great. But in the three losses, he has not played well at all. Minnesota needs a save from Fleury if they want to avoid elimination.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues continue to play well despite not having four defencemen in the lineup. Since switching to Jordan Binnington, the Blues are playing much better. Binnington has been in this position before winning a Stanley Cup in 2019. St. Louis has a sense of calmness on the ice with Binnington between the pipes.
Offensively, the Blues are clicking. In Game 5, Vladimir Tarasenko recorded the third hat trick of this series and the second for the Blues. He is now up to five points in the playoffs right behind David Perron and Ryan O’Reilly each with seven points. St. Louis is getting production throughout their lineup, which was a key to their success during the regular season.
