Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Winnipeg Jets Betting Odds, Prediction

It’s another chapter of Patrik Laine vs. Auston Matthews and a great way to drop the puck on the 2017-18 NHL season. Last season, Matthews edged out Laine to win the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie, but both first-year players (selected first and second overall) proved to be future cornerstones of their respective franchises for years to come. Steve Mason is expected to start in goal for the Jets, while the Maple Leafs will counter with Frederik Andersen.

Maple Leafs finished the preseason with a 5-2-1 record and the fans of the Blue and White are very optimistic heading into the new season. The Maple Leafs tinkered with the roster in the off season bringing in veterans Ron Hainsey, Dominic Moore, and most notably Patrick Marleau. The multi-time all-star will start the season on a line with Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov, but don’t be surprised to see the former Sharks captain playing alongside Auston Matthews in power-play situations.

Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets feel they have addressed their most major concern this off season, by signing free agent goaltender Steve Mason. Mason will help a Jets defence that finished with 255 goals against, and ranked 27^th overall, only ahead of Avalanche, Stars and Coyotes. Throughout most of the preseason, superstar Patrik Laine has been paired with Mark Schiefele and Blake Wheeler. This line will provide most of the Jets offensive output for the season, and a reason why many feel Laine is a top Rocket Richard Trophy candidate, for most goals scored in a season.
