Home-ice advantage is the deciding factor in this one, with Edmonton a slight favorite despite struggling for most of the first two months of the season. Putting together extended runs of solid play has eluded the Oilers, as they’re just 2-9 in their last 11 games following a victory. Toronto, by comparison, is 5-2 in its previous seven games following a win and has reeled off four victories in its last five road games overall.

Toronto opened the season as an automatic over play but has actually rewarded under bettors more often of late, going below the total six times with a pair of pushes over its last 10 games. The Oilers have exceeded the total in 11 of their previous 16 home games, and are 6-2-1 O/U in their last nine contests against the Atlantic Division. Toronto has had Edmonton’s number over the past half-decade, winning nine of the previous 11 head-to-head meetings.

The bad news: Matthews hasn’t found the back of the net since striking twice against Montreal six games ago in his return from an upper-body injury. The good news: Matthews is still finding ways to contribute, recording an assist in three straight. The Toronto power play continues to scuffle, producing just six goals so far in November. To put that in perspective, the Maple Leafs struck eight times with the man advantage in its first four games of the season.

Edmonton Oilers

Thursday’s task might be a lot more difficult if Cam Talbot can’t play. The Oilers’ starting netminder missed practice Wednesday and is considered questionable for the game against the Leafs. Talbot has started to find his elite form of last season, winning each of his last three starts while allowing two goals in each of them. Look for Edmonton to recall a netminder prior to the game if Talbot isn’t healthy enough to practice Thursday.
