Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild Game 4 Prediction, NHL Odds

The Dallas Stars were hoping that a confidence-building 7-3 win in Game 2 would buoy them to a win in Game 3 of their first-round series with Minnesota but that didn’t come to fruition. They came out absolutely flat, losing 5-1 to again fall behind by a game in the series. The Stars were favoured on the original series price but now the odds show that it’s a toss-up.
As for tonight, the host Wild are pinned as -111 favourites on the NHL odds‘  moneyline.

Stars vs. Wild NHL Playoffs Betting Odds

The Stars are 7-2 in their last nine games overall and 10-4 in their last 14 games played on the road. However, they are just 2-5 in their last seven games played in the Conference Quarterfinals. When it comes to their total, the over has cashed out in their last five games played on the road.

Minnesota is currently 10-4 in their last 14 games against teams from the Central Division and 6-1 in their last seven when their opponents allow at least five goals in the last outing. Their total has seen the over hit in 19 of their last 26 games played on a Sunday. It’s also 9-3-1 against teams from the Central Division.

Dallas Stars

Dallas was again without veteran leader Joe Pavelski in Game 3 as he didn’t make the trip with the team to Minnesota and the squad seemed to feel his absence. They mustered just a single goal in Game 3 and could have really used their third-leading point-getter. Pavelski is also going miss Game 4, so this group has to figure out a way to stay alive regardless.

In Game 3, they were outclassed in every way en route to a 5-1 loss. They only mustered 24 shots on net, they were outhit 26-17 took more penalties than Minnesota (six versus four) and gave up a power play goal. Goalie Jake Oettinger stopped 20 shots but again didn’t have a great game.

Not all is lost here for Dallas as they came to Minnesota looking for a split and still have that opportunity. The concern is the effort as they weren’t even close in Game 3. Their lone win came in Game 2 when Marc-Andre Fleury was in net and they’re not likely to see him the rest of the series.

Minnesota Wild

The Wild put Filip Gustavsson into the net after Marc-Andre Fleury allowed seven goals in Game 2. Gustavsson once again played excellent, saving 23 out of 24 shots. It’d be hard to believe that Fleury gets another start in this series. Gustavsson has now faced the Stars four times this season – twice in the regular season and twice in the playoffs – and has allowed a total of seven goals. He had a .939 save percentage in the regular season meetings and has upped it to .961 in the playoffs. Dallas just can’t seem to find a way through him.

It wasn’t all good news for Minnesota, though, as Joel Eriksson Ek, who had been out since April 6th, returned but only lasted one shift. He had 23 goals and 38 assists throughout the season, so his return would have been useful. We’ll have to see how serious this re-injury is.
