It’s the first Monday game of the new season for the Ottawa Senators as they welcome the Dallas Stars for the lone time this season. The game is a pick’em on the NHL odds.
Stars vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds
It’s the first of two meetings between the clubs with Ottawa visiting Dallas on Dec. 8. The Senators haven’t lost a season series to the Stars since 2015-16 and swept last year – they played both less than two weeks apart. The one at Canadian Tire Centre finished 3-2 as Chris Tierney had two power-play goals. Tierney didn’t have any other points in the series. Connor Brown led the team with four points (1G, 3A). Josh Norris had two goals. Filip Gustavsson was in net for both and stopped 70 of 73 shots for a save percentage of .959.
Four players led Dallas with two points each: Radek Faksa (2A), Joe Pavelski (2G), Michael Raffl (1G, 1A) and Alexander Radulov (2A). Anton Khudobin and Braden Holtby both got a start in net, but they are elsewhere now.
The Senators are 8-2 in the past 10 meetings. The total has gone under in seven of them.
Dallas Stars
The Stars lost their first game of the season Thursday in Toronto but bounced back with a 5-2 win in Montreal on Saturday – the first home loss of the season for the Habs. Pavelski had a hat trick and an assist for Dallas. He leads the team with four goals on the year and is tied for the club lead with seven points.
“It’s incredible what he’s doing, really,” said Coach Peter DeBoer, who coached Pavelski in San Jose. “He looks exactly like he did five, six years ago, like the clock stopped. He looks like he can do it for another five years. It’s hard to explain, he’s just a special athlete.”
Jake Oettinger is an early Vezina candidate as he improved to 4-0-0 with a 1.25 GAA and .959 SV. This is the front end of a back-to-back but Oettinger is expected to start. The Stars are quite healthy.
Ottawa Senators
Ottawa won its third in a row Saturday, 6-2 over the visiting Arizona Coyotes. Shane Pinto extended his goal streak to four games and Brady Tkachuk scored twice. Tkachuk reached 200 career points (282 NHL games) with the second goal and has seven points (three goals, four assists) during the winning streak. Anton Forsberg had 20 saves to improve to 3-2-0 with a 2.82 GAA and .904 SV. However, Norris was injured and will miss at least two weeks. Norris has a goal and assist on the year. Derick Brassard will move into Ottawa’s top-six forward group because of Norris’ absence. Brassard was between Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux during Monday’s morning skate.
