Dallas Stars vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
This concludes a four-game road trip through Canada for Dallas, while Edmonton heads out on a five-game trip through the western United States starting Tuesday in San Jose.
Stars vs. Oilers Betting Analysis
It’s the first of three meetings between the Stars and Oilers and the only one in Edmonton – the Oilers go to Dallas on Dec. 16 and March 3. Edmonton is 7-10 at home in the series this decade and the teams split there last year. The Oilers won the first meeting at Rogers Place 1-0 in overtime with Oscar Klefbom scoring the winner after both goaltenders, Mikko Koskinen and Anton Khudobin, were terrific in regulation.
The other game in Edmonton resulted in a 3-2 Stars win in a shootout. Jamie Benn beat Koskinen for the shootout winner. It was a notable game because Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl picked up his 100th point of the 2018-19 campaign, joining Connor McDavid in triple digits. They became the first Oilers duo to crack 100 points since 1988-1989 (Jari Kurri and Jimmy Carson).
Draisaitl (1G, 3A) had four points in the season series and McDavid (1G, 1A) two. Koskinen was 1-1-1 with a 1.61 goals-against average and .932 SV. A handful of Stars led Dallas with two points each. Khudobin was 2-0-1 with a 1.28 GAA and .961 SV.
The home team is 6-1 in the past seven meetings. The under is 9-3-2 in the previous 14 in Edmonton.
Dallas Stars
Dallas is 2-1 on its Canadian road trip following a 4-2 win in Vancouver on Thursday. Tyler Seguin scored the eventual game-winning goal at 18:29 of the third, and Alexander Radulov clinched it with his sixth of the season at 17:24 of the third. Seguin added an assist and was the game’s No. 1 star. He leads the team in scoring but with just 13 points.
Roope Hintz is the surprise leader in goals with nine, but the 22-year-old Finn was placed on injured reserve Thursday with a lower-body injury. Blueliner John Klingberg also was placed on injured reserve. Winger Andrew Cogliano sat Thursday with a lower-body injury, but defenceman Roman Polak played his first game since fracturing his sternum in the season opener. Khudobin started Thursday in net but it likely will be No. 1 Ben Bishop on Saturday.
Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton has played three straight games where the winning team has scored six goals – the Oilers were on the winning side in two of those, including 6-2 at home over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. McDavid was spectacular with three goals and three assists for a career-high six points, while Draisaitl had five assists for a career-high five points. That’s clearly the best 1-2 punch in the NHL right now with Draisaitl leading the league with 41 points and McDavid second with 37.
Oilers defenceman Caleb Jones played his first game of the season after being called up from Bakersfield of the AHL. Mike Smith stopped 31 of 33 shots to improve to 6-5-1 with a 2.53 GAA and .915 SV. As for this game, the Oilers have yet to lose on a Saturday in 2019.
