Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Prediction, NHL Odds
The Dallas Stars take centre stage on Hockey Night in Canada this weekend when they pay a visit to the Calgary Flames.
It’s the second of four straight games on the road, with Dallas beginning this span on Thursday with a 4-2 win at Vancouver. The 13-5-3 Stars have won six of their last seven outings and sit second in the Central Division, looking like a powerhouse yet again.
The Flames have fallen down to Earth and are fully in the Gavin McKenna sweepstakes with a league-low 15 points through 22 games. Scoring has been a predictable, massive issue for Calgary this season but they did score six times in their most recent showing, a 6-2 win at Buffalo on Wednesday night. Dallas is a whole new challenge though, and it all goes down at 10 p.m. EST at the Scotiabank Saddledome. The Stars come in as -150 road favourites, while the total is at six on the NHL odds.
Stars vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds
The Stars possess one of the top road records in the NHL this season at 7-1-2 and have won four of their last five road outings outright. Calgary is 3-6 in their last nine at home, but where the real trends lie between these two clubs is in the total. The over is 8-1 in the last nine Stars–Flames meetings and 4-1 in the last five played at Calgary.
The only hesitance with going for any sort of over bet involving this Flames team this season is they rank dead last in the league with 2.27 goals per game. The Stars are also top 10 in the NHL with 2.76 goals against per game. But in eight of these teams’ last nine matchups, the winning club has scored a minimum of four goals and often times more.
Dallas Stars
Jason Robertson is playing some of the best hockey of his career. He’s scored in five consecutive games and now has a team-high 12 on the season. Robertson’s 26 points only trail Mikko Rantanen on the team, who is now at 28 points and on a five-game point streak. Both are well over a point-a-game this season, which is making up for a dip in the Stars’ depth that’s been a major cause in taking them to three straight Western Conference Finals.
That’s not to say the Stars are without depth; they remain without defencemen Thomas Harley and Ilya Lyubushkin for this road trip but it hasn’t stopped the Stars from allowing two or fewer goals in six of their last outings. Saturday could be a good spot to give starting goalie Jake Oettinger a rest, but Casey DeSmith has been very good in a backup role this season with a .913 save percentage in six appearances.
Calgary Flames
Scoring hasn’t come easy for the Flames this season but they are coming off a season-high six-goal outing on Wednesday. Defenceman Rasmus Anderson led the way with a goal and two assists in the 6-2 win, although the negative side of this is Anderson’s five goals are third on the team. Only Matt Coronato and Blake Coleman are ahead with seven goals each and we’re over 20 games into the season now.
Backup Devin Cooley continues to be a surprise for the Flames as he’s now at a .935 save percentage in six appearances. Starter Dustin Wolf, who should be between the pipes on Saturday, has struggled this year with an .892 save percentage in 18 games.
