Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames Game 5 Prediction, NHL Odds
If you told the Dallas Stars they’d be tied with the Calgary Flames after four games in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series, Dallas would take it — and that’s the situation they’re in ahead of Game 5 at Calgary. The Flames evened things up Monday with a dominant 4-1 victory, finally reaching three goals in a game for the first time in this series. Calgary’s strategy in Game 4 clearly shifted to a more “pucks on net” approach as they peppered Dallas with 54 shots.
The remaining two, or three games go in the next six days with each squad alternating as the home team starting with Calgary on Wednesday. Game 5’s puck drop at Scotiabank Saddledome goes at 9:30 p.m. EDT. The Flames are -220 on the moneyline and the over-under is at 5.5 on the NHL odds.
Stars vs. Flames NHL Betting Odds
The under connected again on Monday night, putting it to 3-1 this series. The under is now 5-1 in Calgary’s last six games as the Flames had prior gone on an offensive slump before Game 4.
The Flames are an elite team on home ice with wins in four of their last five home outings and a 26-10-7 record in Calgary on the year. Dallas is still sub .500 on the road this season at 20-21-2. That said, head-to-head it’s the Stars with the advantage at Calgary — they’re 8-3 against the Flames in their last 11 meetings up in Canada.
Dallas Stars
It took pulling the goalie for the Stars to get their lone goal Monday night, which came via Tyler Seguin’s first of the postseason. With an assist on Seguin’s goal, Joe Pavelski extended his playoff point streak to three games and now has a team-high four points and three goals. Pavelski is the only Stars player with multiple goals this series too.
Jake Oettinger was outstanding in net, making 50 saves in a losing effort. The 23-year-old has upped his game in the postseason with a .960 save percentage through four games — his only four playoff starts in the NHL.
Calgary Flames
Calgary’s top line made their presence felt in Game 4. Johnny Gaudreau’s first of the postseason, a penalty shot, ended up as the game’s winning goal and Elias Lindholm buried his team-leading third of the playoffs. Matthew Tkachuk, the third member of Calgary’s top line, also had an assist in the win. The trio combined for nine shots on goal.
Defenceman Rasmus Andersson and forward Mikael Backlund both scored their first goals of the series in Calgary’s win on Monday. Jacob Markstrom was once again stellar in net with 34 saves on 35 shots. Markstrom has a .952 save percentage this series.
