Dallas took their first loss of the season in Toronto Thursday night, while Montreal picked up their most exciting win of the season so far 6-2 over Arizona.

The Stars are the -171 favourite to win tonight on the NHL odds with a total of 6.

Stars vs. Canadiens NHL Betting Odds

The Stars and Canadiens met twice last season and each team took a win as the road team. They smashed the over in both games, but Montreal covered the spread in both meetings thanks to Nick Suzuki leading the series in scoring, picking up 4 points (1G, 3A).

Dallas has not played the Over yet this season, posting a 0-3-1 record on the Over/Under. They are one of four teams who have not lost in regulation yet and have covered the spread in every game.

Montreal’s offence exploded for six goals in their most recent matchup, hitting Over the total for the first time this season (1-3-1). They have covered the spread in all three of their home games and boast a 3-2 record ATS early on in the season.

Early bettors are siding with Dallas on this one receiving 69 percent of Moneyline bets. The Total is a bit more intriguing though, with a 60-40 split to the Over on tonight’s 6 total.

Dallas Stars

The Stars gave 30-year-old goaltender, Scott Wedgewood his first start of the season, Thursday night versus his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Luke Glendening opened the scoring in the game with his first of the season late in the first period. Dallas then surrendered early goals in both the second and third periods, but Tyler Seguin’s powerplay marker tied the game at two, extending the game to overtime. Wedgewood would finish the game with 40 saves, but it would not be enough as the Leafs would score in overtime to hand the Stars their first loss of the season.

Mason Marchment managed an assist in the loss to extend his season-opening point streak to four games, a stretch where he has put up six points (3G, 3A). Marchment came as advertised after inking a four-year 18 million dollar with the Stars, at the top of the team in points (6), goals (3) shots (11) and hits (8).

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens fans were ecstatic after the team’s big 6-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night, keeping their perfect home record intact.

Josh Anderson’s second of the season opened the scoring before Cole Caufield would score his fourth goal in five games. Fan favourite Brendan Gallagher got the monkey off his back and sniping his first of the year to give the Habs a 3-0 lead just 7:17 into the first period.

Juraj Slafkovsky, the No. 1 overall draft choice in 2022, then brought the Bell Centre to its feet again with the first goal of his career early in the second period. Suzuki then scored his third of the year on a beautiful penalty shot before Sean Monahan sealed the deal with an empty netter.

Suzuki is showing the new “C” on his sweater is not going to affect his play as he has been the Canadiens’ best player this season, leading the team in points (6), and assists (3) while being the most used forward, averaging 19:48 in time on ice.
